The shop steward is a bad analogy because Obama's the CEO, not an employee. True he's got powerful board members to deal with, but if he's behaving like a shop steward I think we're all in alot of trouble.
I don't think CEO is any better as an analogy. If Obama is a CEO, he's a remarkably weak one.
In any case, thanks to dg and bg for articulating my feelings about Obama's SS move.
I liked the shop steward analogy, because the President is not a King.
Which is how we like it. Or should.
This is a tripartite government (with a Justice chaser) and if anyone can come up with a way of pushing sanity into Republican skulls, I'd like to hear it.
Unfortunately, the shop steward analogy also doesn't work because Obama has been interested in cutting Social Security since 2009. Digby wrote about it at the time. She's been keeping a weather eye on the whole crusade against SS and was not the least bit surprised that his current budget proposes cuts. And of course, if that weren't his agenda, he could propose taking the revenues in his budget and using them to shore up SS. It's something he clearly doesn't want to do.
I voted for him twice, and would also like to believe he's doing something he doesn't want to, but believes is necessary. But it's not true.
