Still Not Over It. Ctd.

When a Conservative redneck complains that "We lost 'The War'" no one needs to ask which "war" they are talking about.

These are the people on whom Richard Nixon rebuilt the Party of Lincoln.

These are the people at whom Ronald Reagan's every racist, anti-government, anti-Liberal dog-whistle was carefully directed.

This is the monster in the Conservative basement that Liberals have been sounding the alarm about for the last four decades.

This is the monster in the Conservative basement that America's leading Conservative public intellectuals have spent virtually their entire professional lives pretending did not exist.

The entire focus of the modern American Conservative Movement has been to give goon like these enough political power to completely fuck up my country.

The last time these goons were given a free hand to fuck up my country, it took over two million Union soldiers and four years of bloody civil war to convince them it was a bad idea.

Maybe someone could ask leading America's Conservative intellectuals like Andrew Sullivan, David Frum and David Brooks to quantify the level of effort it took to hold themselves, year after year,  willfully ignorant of fact that these goons are the bedrock on which their Movement was built.

(Many thanks to @RockDots for hipping me to this clip!)

Wow, that is one nasty video. I'm so glad I wasn't born in Mississippi.

1. I should thank God I don't live in that state or anywhere near it. (Yes, I know ghastly people live everywhere and there are nice people in Mississippi. Let the nice ones come here.)
2. Phil Ochs was right.
3. Conservatism really does shrink the brain.

this leaves us open for the ultimate 'both sides do it.' all the right has to do is point out that it was the republicans that saved us from the horrid forces of evil on the left 150 years ago. of course ignoring the fact that it's ideology, not labels, that counts.

Wow! Just wow!

Knowing that this segment of the population exist and actually interacting with this segment of the population are two different things, to be sure. Granted, watching this video can hardly be described as "interacting", But God damn! To actually see them and hear them and see CLEARLY how their mind is ........Wow! Just wow!

Well stated! As usual, a job well done. But you left something out.
They knew all the time that those idiots were their bedrock. The Ends Justify the Means Party will do whatever it takes to retain what power they possess. They could not have gotten that power without the support of the feeble minded. I believe it was John Stewart Mills that said "While it is true that not all conservatives are stupid people, the vast majority of stupid people are conservative." Truer words were never spoken.

It's odd. I just closed the tab watching Maher's show (where this clip aired) thinking about finding a link for it and dropping it here, opened a new tab and clicked on your link...and there was that same toothless grin.
I don't live in Mississippi, but I might as well. I see and talk to people just like this on a daily basis. What the clip doesn't really convey is how truly hate filled and brutal these people are....and how pervasive. The 750% up tick in hate groups since Obama was elected is a good testimony to that.
Pelosi didn't have to go out and find these people, they are everywhere out here. They aren't stereotypes, they are a great ignorant swath running through this country. These regions are lost....and I will be moving as soon as my family obligations will allow..but I would like to say this again to the holders of the Democratic purse strings: Don't waste any time or money in these places (and for gods sake don't let the president campaign here)....and if you think these hate filled, ignorant zombies are a dieing breed..think again..they are raising a new, more vicious, more heavily armed crop..every fucking year..

So funny - came across this post in my Google Reader just as my TIVO was playing this footage on Bill Maher. What this says about me I don't know, but of course thought of you, DG, and the continuing Civil War. Any way we can vote states out of the Union?

@livingminimal - yes - Bill Maher sent her out to do those interviews in MI.

Ultimately, your way to address your extremely racist rant regarding “Uncle Tom” Michael Steele is to directly, without hesitation, compare him to a Jewish concentration camp collaborator. You're just scum, Drift Glass. Get a job.

Anonymous said...

Hey..that reminds me. Steele was on Maher's show when this clip aired, his reaction to the guy admitting he hated black people: virtually crickets.
If there are some out there that still don't understand what a complete Quisling Steele is they are deluding themselves.

P.S.S. I would comment under my own name, but you recently moderated out a completely innocuous comment I made about another topic...so I am back to this.

The War, to which they are referring, was the 1861 confederate conspiracy against the United States (the country we colloquially call "America").

It was the burnt earth lost generation war of southern treason which, fortunately, the U.S.A. won. When he says "we lost," one wonders who "we" is? What country does he represent/support against America?
Do we need to see his papers?
As a foreign agent fomenting insurrection against the red, white & blue - he certainly is not here legally.

Isn't "the south will rise again" the corollary to "we are committed to treason and pledge to destroy America?"

There are some real gems (turds) there, but the 'God will fix the economy' one may be my favorite, because it's such a great encapsulation of a certain conservative worldview.

I really prefer the C&L video presentation because it has Bill Maher's introduction and about six minutes of followup conversation.

While I agree to a point with Michael Steel's comment that "the South shall rise again" would be used by politicians to indicate revival of the manufacturing base in the South, I think it's absolute crap in this context. You can't look at a confederate soldier and confederate flag on a car driven by someone insisting Obama is a Muslim and say, "Oh, he's talking about a strong economic revival with shared prosperity!".

oh please, get real. this is the entire South, not just MS.

i am amazed this is recorded. people here are born and raised to believe this. and they do.

if only we saw more, the rest of the country might understand more of how hate filled the South is. and proud of it.

And we're supposed 2 b worried about Iran getting The Bomb?!
I'd be more concerned about Mississippi acquiring it -- except for the comforting knowledge that nuclear engineering IS a lot like rocket science, and there is nobody within the borders of Mississippi w/ anything approaching the requisite IQ.

Well for one some of the vdeo was obviously shot in front of a Wal Mart. That is not very fair. Is it?

People from the north move south every day. In droves. Must be some reason for it.

There is some powerful dipshitry at work here.
