Trump has officially entered the post-modern era of Presidential politics as utter grotesquerie. True story: my wife works for the US Forest Service in its International Programs and her beat is Asia-Pacific. She went to India in August and visited a particularly isolated area of Rajasthan State. She went to a village of mostly illiterate people with little knowledge of the outside world. The VERY FIRST question they asked her was not what she was doing there but "Who is this strange Trump person we have heard about?" Yes, it is just that bad around the world. (Of course, Hatch Act meant she couldn't say what she really wanted to them :). And that was in August. The GOP has done more to destroy respect for the United States than any other national or international force has ever achieved. GOP delenda est!

You know, if Trump told his followers that "yup. It's a cook-book." They would still vote for him, because HILLARY! It's strange. Their coping mechanisms are totally fried and they can only repeat a couple of pre-packed evasions ("It was just locker-room talk, and anyway we aren't electing a minister, but someone who will protect us.")They just repeat these things over and over like malfunctioning droids regardless of context.

I'm not sure they will have trouble assimilating his loss though. They are used to losing. They just had hopes that somehow, if they could just elect Donald Trump he could magically take the country back to 1953, when America was great, just before that pesky Brown v. Bd. of Ed. decision.

Trump would somehow repeal the 14th amendment, so we could get rid of all the "anchor babies", and then ta-da! It's an 87% white country again just like we're back with "I Like IKE (& the KKK)" and all the black/brown/lesbian/gay/urban/hippies can all get at the back of the bus. Hurray! Stupid white people will be back in charge. IT's true that they don't know the first thing about how government works or what is going on in the world. But, it's fine!
