...and the Moderate, worse than any of them

because he knew what they were and went along with them.

Alternate American History: 2011 -- "The Trial of the Moderates"
As startling details continue to emerge about the scope and scale of the Bush Regime's vast, interlocking criminal enterprises, and as former leaders of that regime continue to fight extradition from Paraguay, Dubai and heavily fortified compounds within the so-called Patriotic Confederacy of the Christian United States, the "Trial of the Moderates" begins its second week...

Did you participate?

Did you collaborate?

Did you profit from the crimes of the regime?

Did you help spread the poison?

Did you use all your words to pen mighty columns defending monsters.

When caught, did you demand that the just and unjust be punished together because the unjust humps your leg at beltway cocktail parties and calls you beautiful?

Did you snicker at the thought of a shackled man in a cinderblock room being beaten to death in your name?

Did you smirk when your Dear Leader told you he used your Constitution as ass-paper every single day, and then, one minute later, go absolutely monkeyshit at the rumor that some Liberal somewhere might want to touch your guns?

Did you love your troops as long as they were toys kicking brown ass on teevee, and then sneer "Well, they volunteered" after your Dear Leader screwed them, broke them, got them killed or brought them from your Excellent Iraqi Adventure as shattered humans?

Did you cope with being a degenerate failure as a citizen by Turning Rush Up Louder?

Did you cope with being a travesty of a Christian by praying to your little gold-plated .45 caliber Savior to see your enemies burn?

Then listen up, because the Shrill One is talking about you:

Bigger Than Bush

By PAUL KRUGMAN

...

The fault, however, lies not in Republicans’ stars but in themselves. Forty years ago the G.O.P. decided, in effect, to make itself the party of racial backlash. And everything that has happened in recent years, from the choice of Mr. Bush as the party’s champion, to the Bush administration’s pervasive incompetence, to the party’s shrinking base, is a consequence of that decision.

If the Bush administration became a byword for policy bungles, for government by the unqualified, well, it was just following the advice of leading conservative think tanks: after the 2000 election the Heritage Foundation specifically urged the new team to “make appointments based on loyalty first and expertise second.”

...

So the reign of George W. Bush, the first true Southern Republican president since Reconstruction, was the culmination of a long process. And despite the claims of some on the right that Mr. Bush betrayed conservatism, the truth is that he faithfully carried out both his party’s divisive tactics — long before Sarah Palin, Mr. Bush declared that he visited his ranch to “stay in touch with real Americans” — and its governing philosophy.

That’s why the soon-to-be-gone administration’s failure is bigger than Mr. Bush himself: it represents the end of the line for a political strategy that dominated the scene for more than a generation.

...

If you colluded with, excused, celebrated, supported, enabled or otherwise alibied this incompetent, bigoted catastrophe of an ideology then you'd better be on your knees now, begging Wingnut Jebus to help the Obama Administration bring all of its mad Quantum Leap skills

to bear on setting things right that you spent a generation fucking into the ground.

Because if it all unravels...

...no mercy for you.

...no mercy for you.

No mercy for the Moderate.

Who made his life excrement because he walked with them.

And how is Obama himself not exactly the sort of moderate you justly condemn here?

BB- let's wait and see what happens once he has a chance to, you know, actually govern the country for a couple of years. Because it will take a while to clean up the mess, and to do the very particular things that comprise the various litmus tests to which he's already been subjected.

"Oh, workers can you stand it?
Oh, tell me how you can.
Will you be a lousy scab,
Or will you be a man ?

Which side are you on?
Which side are you on?
Which side are you on?
Which side are you on?

Don't scab for the bosses,
Don't listen to their lies.
Us poor folks haven't got a chance,
Unless we organize."

Florence Reese 1931

After decades of systematic, aggressive, strategic de-coupling of people and reality, via less than scrupulous methods, we have an opportunity to fight back.

Battles fought in isolation are now enjoined. It's the same fight, in the same war. Of the people, by the people, FOR the people.

There's a difference between "shilling for the man" and staying engaged to minimize the damage.

What remains to be seen is how bad things have to get before doing what's right and necessary can be done despite the programming that has been engrained against our common interests.

Drifty, you have the voice.
However grudgingly to some, your words ring as truth. It's almost a shame that we've become so civilized that putting shitheels against the wall is considered to be in poor form.

Drfity,

You once again amaze. And bringing Janner's speech? Simply brilliant.

Yep.

Best post I've read, seen, and heard in all my internet experience.
I agree with your position and congratulate you for stating it so well. I'm sending a link to a bunch.

Having been pretty much overwhelmed by your posts for a few weeks running now, over and above my usual wonderment, and ever hoping the NYT never snatches you away from us while simultaneously wishing your column appeared right next to Herr Krugman's, I overlooked our 2 blue circles on a field of white in your sidebar. But it was just like getting a shiny merit badge with a little piece of driftglass set in it— for babbling out loud on the innertoobs.
Domo arigato. I'm gonna tell everyone I know.

You've been in rare form lately, Mr. D. Glass. Unlike your splendid self, words fail me.

And Krugman!! His column today is a real dilly. Our Nobel Laureate brought out the big hammer today, didn't he? I just LOVE it when he does that...

Brilliant as usual. One question: WTF was Krugman talking about in relation to Bush as the first Southern Republican president? The motherfucker is a Yankee plutocrat schooled at Andover, Yale, and Harvard.

Oh, and Drifty, for the love of fucking god, man, your blog theme is motherfucking horrible!!! All those different light colored text on dark backgrounds is a motherfucking NIGHTMARE to read!!!!!!
