"Or what?

“You'll release the dogs? Or the bees? Or the dogs with bees in their mouths, and when they bark they shoot bees at you?"

Apparently, yes.

Swarm of bees forces passenger plane to land

Fri May 25, 10:34 AM ET

A passenger plane was forced to land after flying into a swarm of British bees Thursday.

The Palmair Boeing 737, with 90 passengers on board, had to return to Bournemouth Airport in southern England shortly after take-off following an engine surge.

The pilot decided to abort the flight to Faro in Portugal and returned for safety checks. The plane's engine was thought to have become clogged with bees, the company said Friday.

Huge clouds of bees have been seen around Bournemouth over the past few days, a spokeswoman said.

Something interesting and scary must be going on in the natural envrionment. The domestic honeybees are dying off leaving behind poisoned hives (evidenced by the fact that other insects won't raid the abandoned hives for their honey as is usually the case), and these wild bees are swarming in a massive and almost agressive fashion.

How do we know it was wild bees? The article doesn't say. It might have been honey bees; perhaps for some obscure reason the missing colonies are not dead but aggregating in huge swarms and are, well, swarming. To mate?

A super-swarm. Reminds me of a scene Terry Pratchett wrote in one of his Discworld novel, 'Lords and Ladies'. Of course, that was a fantasy novel...

Well, it's because the abandoned hives appear to give evidence of being somehow poisoned or tainted that I tend to think the domestic honeybees are dying. If those were actually the bees being affected by Colony Collapse Disorder in the mega-swarm, though, that would be a massive Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot moment.

If the dogs with bees in their mouths don't work, there are always the sharks with FRICKIN' LASER BEAMS... ;)

Oh no! Jihadist bees. They're massing there to attack us here. Hide the chillens.

see, the thing about your blog driftglass, is it is very funny, and very depressing.

not that there is anything wrong with that.

Damn, and all this time I thought that cell phones were causing the colony collapse disorder. Now it turns out to be the military industrial complex. Sheeyit.
