"Like they should have stopped Hitler at Munich, they should never let him get away with that, they was just asking for trouble."  --  Peter Clemenza, The Godfather

  1. A lot of my generation liked to get high, so of course we were opposed to the government, who wanted us to not get high, and even wanted to throw us in jail for it.
Most of us gradually filtered back into participation as our lives expanded to include other things besides getting high.
I totally recognize those fuckers who never made it back in MAGA. Not just the type, but the actual people. They will oppose normality until they die, and most of them don't even remember why they are rebelling. It has long since just become an identity issue with them, and they have long since stopped making any sense at all when trying to explain it.
I think of them when I hear about the young fascists. And I feel sorry for the young fascists because at least we had rock and roll to give meaning to our lives, and all they have is bitterness that they don't even understand.
That doesn't mean they don't need to be defeated.
Something tells me that the numbers don't actually skew in their direction, but as long as they remain as loud and reflexively attention attracting as they currently are, we'll have to treat them as if they did.
All it took to call me back to attention about politics was dubya getting reelected. Maybe it's a failure of my own imagination, but I'm not seeing the simple event that slips under the identity armor and turns the lights back on for these folks.
Thank you again for the podcast. The fucking polls are saying that California might get its own billionaire governor in Tom Steyer. He is an entirely inferior billionaire to your governor, and I won't be voting for him in the primary unless that is the only way to keep two goddamn Republicans from advancing to the general. I am not troubled by the implosion of Swellwall, as we need to keep our decreepization system working and in good repair, and also I still hold a grudge against him for taking the seat of Pete Stark, who was the only out atheist in congress.
I remain a Katie Porter supporter.
