I don't know if it's exhaustion from decades of frustration but the comments I see across the online universe that bother me the most these days is the subject of this podcast. Way more often than I should see for reasonably intelligent people are comments along the lines of "I hate Trump and the Republicans but the Democrats...". I get it because at this point I'm so mad at the Ds for their lack of resistance and inability to show the urgency for what's happening. Still, there's no legitimate 'both sides' argument to be made but I find myself on the hated side of social media comments when I point this out.
Meanwhile Trump posts a racist video of the the former president Obama and his wife. As a CSPAN caller on the republican line who claims he voted for the orange scumbag 3 times because he bought into the job creation myth Trump sold him. He actually apologizes to Americans and says he is a racist embarrassment to his country. The corruption and more. But as a life long republican who just noticed the dude's racism. What did he think the conspiracy lies from Trump that Obama is not born in America.??? Not sorry but no room in the lifeboat for him. as if his awaking from his rightwing coma give him atonement for apologizing for Trump. As if he can do that when Trump continues his rot. Will he apologize for his right wing pals? How about apologizing for the self proclaimed Christian white house spokes person that Live in idiot suckers shame and correct your failures for the future.
I used to hear at my work before retiring from some co workers that they really thought America needs to have a "BUSINESSMAN" in the presidency. Mind you, they were the same people that complained about our plant manager and CEO as dufuses. I would always respond. Our government is not a business and do you really want America ran like our company by the managers you complain of.
Well, since the "center" has been fictional all along, I guess I don't really miss the quadrennial sprint for it too much. Especially given that while that sprint was underway, all manner of hinky bullshit went on in the background that really undermined any "common sense"-ness that they were supposedly trying to sell us. Wars and treachery and shit. And that part isn't dying with the centersprint. I still have hopes that one day we can get a firm enough grip on the levers of power (read that majorities in congress) to pass the sort of election reform that we almost got when Biden got in (Some day Manchin and Sinema will have graves to pee on), and the incentive structure can be modified back toward sanity enough to make the function that the centersprint performed obsolete, not just the sprint itself. Thank you again for the podcast. JD Vance got booed at the Olympics, and it seems to me that we have almost fully traded places with Russia circa 2006. Sure we have capable and inspiring athletes, some of whom are at the pinnacle of their sport, but it's just damn hard to get behind them when their country is led by a monster.
