Old Sow loved his travel writing in particular too, though all his writing was exceptional. She hopes he will return to the waves, whether in an identifiable form or anew.
Billmon has quit before More than once, in fact. I've followed him for years, and it gets a bit frustrating, but since he has a regular job, I think it's asking too much to expect him to blog regularly. He may finally drop the whole thing, but I believe that loveandlight makes a good point - this may be an episode of depression (certainly his later posts seem rather despairing). He really should guest on someone else's blog if he wants to close his site but still post, as some have done. It took me years to beat depression and some people never do, so I guess I'll just await developments.
fledermaus - I occasionally break into cold sweats thinking how VF may one day see how popular Wolcott is and decide to "monetize" his blog by putting it behind a paid subscription wall. Notice how little Krugman is discussed anymore?
I'll certainly miss him if he goes, (and I'd tell him myself, if he allowed comments.)

I think he's bi-polar and he's just recently crashed full-on into the "depressed" phase.
