The "the" in "the American People" has filed a complaint with the labor relations board over unfair practices relating to the the amount of work it is routinely called upon to perform every damn time that phrase is written or uttered. When Nixon came out with his "silent majority" bullshit, my brother had just turned eighteen, and the draft was still in full swing. The way I remember it, he did better in the lottery than his friend Clint, who was called up, but absconded. My dad was a goddamn Republican, but I don't recall him being very silent about Vietnam. The way I see it, words are an important part of the reality that Fergus and his felons are trying their asses off to redefine. If words can be degraded in their meaning they can be shorn of a lot of the negative political effects being associated with them used to carry. Or that was the program before we were talking about the rape of children. I won't be completely surprised if they find a way to downgrade the evil associated with it, but as of now it seems to be holding its own. And while we're on the subject, "the Epstein files" is a similarly imprecise term that is getting exploited fifteen ways from Sunday right about now, and if we're not careful and vigilant, it will similarly become just this side of meaningless. Thank you again for the podcast. You know how the polar vortex has been clobbering everything East of the Rockies for months? Well, that has kept a high pressure ridge over the West coast that has mercifully kept it from snowing much on us. That ridge is gone and the forecast is for as much as three feet this coming week. Wish us luck, we're gonna need it.
