He figured it could be called "Rude Harlan," and he also figured there would be no shortage of material. I should point out that he said all this with the greatest of affection for the man.Lex Alexanderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05364989805025038306noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11363027.post-77284047761670591782014-10-15T22:11:47.064-05:002014-10-15T22:11:47.064-05:00This is why I read this blog. You report important news that the big outlets ignore.

The other day I stopped in at a reasonably large independent bookstore, with by the number of books, a decent sf section. Looking through, three Heinlein (you know the ones), one Clarke, no Asimov, no Silverberg, no Le Guin, no Ellison.

Such is the state of SF todayAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11363027.post-57382150323489339172014-10-15T11:58:04.206-05:002014-10-15T11:58:04.206-05:00I suggest we immediately start a fund to send drif...I suggest we immediately start a fund to send drift glass to visit him, before ellison becomes too strong to dodge the visit...

Money well spent, says I!

Rgds,

TengrainTengrainhttp://mockpaperscissors.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11363027.post-89277370134589902692014-10-15T09:35:53.597-05:002014-10-15T09:35:53.597-05:00Jesus--crazy news to hear, but it looks like he...Jesus--crazy news to hear, but it looks like he's doing fine, thank heaven.

(Yes, I know I'm using religious terms when it comes to Harlan, who's an atheist. I don't care.)

Then again, a heart attack in the 1990s didn't take out Ellison. I'm just glad that he's still here, he's still got the attitude, and hope his physical therapy goes well. A stroke is no joke--both my grandmothers died of them, while an uncle survived his and is pretty much 100% fine.

Harlan will hang in there for a good while.Marc McKenziehttp://redshoulder.deviantart.com/gallery/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11363027.post-6929759120621261382014-10-15T01:11:50.732-05:002014-10-15T01:11:50.732-05:00very sorry to hear about the stroke. But really, ...very sorry to hear about the stroke. But really, didn't we all kind of figure that was going to happen? I mean, the entire planet has been driving him nuts for so long...

I expect him to survive, as he is too irascible to be put down by such an inconsequential opponent as his own body.

I suggest we immediately start a fund to send drift glass to visit him, before ellison becomes too strong to dodge the visit...zombie rotten mcdonaldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10601960953323752278noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11363027.post-26027911976472497892014-10-15T00:16:29.830-05:002014-10-15T00:16:29.830-05:00Physical Therapy, PT, also short for pain&tort... Physical Therapy, PT, also short for pain&torture... but damn if they aren't good at it. After my stroke in '08, I spent 20 days in the hospital and two months in acute rehab. They rolled me in on a gurney, and I walked out with a cane. It's an ordeal, for sure, but if he's already doing PT, he's probably OK.

-Doug in Oakland
dinthebeasthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12941071534250216503noreply@blogger.com
