I notice they were doing a lot of that this week-end. I wish I could explain to them all they don't have to worry about the military suffering any hardship. I'm not sure about the 2,000 or so in Eastern Syria -- they probably haven't had time to have Halliburton come in and build their permanent base yet, with the Dairy Queen and the MacDonald's, but they're getting good food to eat and plenty of it and they have plenty of bullets even if there's no place to park their shiny new $3 billion aircraft carrier. The generals are happy few civilians know anything about what soldiers' lives are like because that means nobody questions why they're paid half a million bucks a year and retiring on quarter million dollar lifetime pensions (at least they're taxable), plus another half million a year or so from directorships and consultancies. By the way, I feel qualified to rant about this because I'm retired for length of service from the Army.Procopiushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17554355440319405363noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11363027.post-88967817497987775062018-01-24T07:57:31.722-06:002018-01-24T07:57:31.722-06:00By reducing inequalities, by integrating daily lif...By reducing inequalities, by integrating daily life, we can eventually make our common humanity more salient and our racial difference less so. We believe that America has already made strides in this direction and that it’s everyone’s responsibility to make racial diversity a creative spark and not a source of permanent hostility.

I feel like one side of the aisle is actually doing this, Dave.

It's more of that Mark Lilla "electoral balkanization" crap, the argument that insists that American liberal politics are being driven in chief by a few hundred hyperbolic college activists and some self-proclaimed radicals in comment sections. Back in my reality, those "Middlebury College faculty lounge" types are mostly talking about how the problems of the downtrodden intersect with each other (and someone should really come up with a punchy name for that) and at a higher level, the message is far more "we're all in this together" than "hate whitey."

But then again, when one side has literal neo-Nazis in it, I suppose Mr. Both Sides has to reach a little bit further to find equivalence.Andrew Johnstonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05780648896926049012noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11363027.post-5165859039559058062018-01-24T03:24:48.459-06:002018-01-24T03:24:48.459-06:00What a strange column by the self-professed most a...What a strange column by the self-professed most anti-trump human on the entire planet.steevehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12620735494191381865noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11363027.post-34114693930497622002018-01-24T01:07:56.483-06:002018-01-24T01:07:56.483-06:00Not to ignore your Brooks report.
It is just that...Not to ignore your Brooks report.

It is just that I caught a clip of Mike Steele on Harball expressing himself over religious right wing evangelicals giving Trump Mulligans and passes on his life of sin while telling him what to think, pray how to live etc..

Mike was paid by the RNC to lie. Like Kellyanne or the Hucklbee.

Odd, Steele went to MSNBC instead of the glory shithole FOX.

But it was something to watch Steele go off. Like he is finally outside the GOP shpere of gloom and looking in. Looking at the GOP with liberal tinted glasses.

Now, Let me read a Brooks report.Robthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15736678459663803707noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11363027.post-70059878943183855302018-01-24T00:09:44.423-06:002018-01-24T00:09:44.423-06:00"But there are some of us who are uncomfortab..."But there are some of us who are uncomfortable with the whole identity-politics drill."

But not enough by a lot for my tastes. Would that you were as uncomfortable as, say, the children of that guy they just deported, or the parents of any of the children undergoing cancer treatment who have been wondering if they will still have coverage for their next appointment.

Also, about Mr. McConnell: Let's not forget what the actual chances of a DACA bill passing the house are, so as not to lose sight of what that reptile is really up to here: He's desperately trying to divide the Democrats ahead of what could be a GOP bloodbath of a midterm election.
Let's not fall for it.

-Doug in Oakland dinthebeasthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12941071534250216503noreply@blogger.com
