Krusty the Konservative Kwits Komedy

Because pimping for GOP monsters ain't fun anymore.

Steve Schmidt Announces He Is Leaving The Republican Party

Longtime Republican political operative Steve Schmidt renounced his membership in the Republican Party in an overnight tweetstorm. He said he was leaving “the party of Trump” after nearly 30 years as a registered voter.

He explained that he can no longer stand the continuing abuses of President Donald Trump and he believes “the GOP has become a danger to our democracy...

Instead, sir or madam, Mr. Steve Schmidt would like five minutes of your time to talk to you about an amazing "...proud and meaningless association of people" called The Church of Latter Day Independents!

“I have spent much of my life working in GOP politics. I have always believed that both parties were two of the most important institutions to the advancement of human freedom and dignity in the history of the world. Today the GOP has become a danger to our democracy and values.”

“This Independent voter will be aligned with the only party left in America that stands for what is right and decent and remains fidelitous to our Republic, objective truth, the rule of law and our Allies. That party is the Democratic Party.”
I'm being a little hard on Mr. Schmidt today because based on the totality of the history of the modern Republican party, it has been my observation that once the accelerating and downward-spiraling depravity of the GOP hits certain benchmarks, inevitably a handful of formerly-staunch party men and women throw up their hands, slap on an "Independent" name tag and make a great show of exiting the party, usually 20 or 30 years too late.

For Mr. Schmidt, that benchmark was internment camps for babies.  Which is fine.  I'll take what I can get.

However, it has been my observation that as soon as the immediate crisis that triggered their gag-reflex has passed, many of these same suddenly-conscience-stricken quickly find their way into the front pews of the High and Holy Church of Both Sides Do It.  Because inside the Beltway Bubble, blaming Both Sides still absolutely the official state religion.

And these newly-minted "independent" dutifully pray the prayers -- "Lord Of Th' Holy Centre, Sayve Us From Th' Curs'd Extemese On Bothe Sydes"  -- and sing the hymns -- "In Brooks alone my hope is found/He is my light, my strength, my song..." -- because that is how you keep your fucking job.

And very soon after that they will find a way to convince themselves that maybe the Republican party really wasn't so bad after all...and it's getting more awesome every day!  Take this sterling example from the pope of the High and Holy Church of Both Sides Do It himself from November 5, 2014 -- less than one year before Donald J. Trump oozed down the Escalator of Doom and into the hearts of the base of Mr. Brooks' Republican party with emphasis added
The big Republican accomplishment is that they have detoxified their brand. Four years ago they seemed scary and extreme to a lot of people. They no longer seem that way. The wins in purple states like North Carolina, Iowa and Colorado are clear indications that the party can at least gain a hearing among swing voters. And if the G.O.P. presents a reasonable candidate (and this year’s crop was very good), then Republicans can win anywhere. I think we’ve left the Sarah Palin phase and entered the Tom Cotton phase.
The Beltway media is full of former-Republicans-now-"Independents" who had whatchacall a "moment of clarity"...and quickly found out that that the price of following their newly-discovered principles all the way to its logical conclusion was to risk losing their place at the table, having the "L"-word tattooed on their head, being be cast into permanent media Coventry like any other Libtard loser.

And so, after their brief and glorious flash of horror and idealism, they weight the very real professional and financial cost of their actions, fall back to Earth, and go in search of nice, safe, media-approved Both Siderist fences to straddle.  Like this guy.

Now if Mr. Schmidt's Acela Corridor Train to Damascus conversion is real and permanent, well that's great!   But as Mr. Schmidt is fond of quoting Ronald Reagan, let me to put this is terms he will understand.

And just as soon Mr. Schmidt verifies his principles by admitting out-loud and with no equivocation that the Left has been right about the Right all along and I will begin to trust him.

Behold, a Tip Jar!

I hasten to add that I guess only half of these GOP ghouls think concentration camps for kids is okay. It is a very cold comfort that the Dowds and Fourniers of the world will suspend services at the Church of Both Sides, at least until this little matter is resolved.

Good afternoon, Mr. Glass.

I went back through C&L's archives to see what Mr. Schmidt was like before he became the latest Charlie Sykes. Came across this:

It's intriguing how much of this post could apply to what people were saying about Mr. Trump...except that he actually became President.

Be seeing you (and glad you got the Prisoner/Babylon 5 reference in our last email exchange).

Yes, I seen this over at C&L and else where.

It is a news item to pause and take note of. Welcome to sanity, facts and the inclination to progess into the improving betterment, Steve.

I have but a few humble thoughts.

It is corrupt, indecent and immoral. With the exception of a few Governors like Baker, Hogan and Kasich it is filled with feckless cowards who disgrace and dishonor the legacies of the party’s greatest leaders. This child separation policy is connected to the worst abuses of

-Steve Schmidt ignores the voter suppression Ohio Gov Johnny has been implementing which has enabled those immoral, corrupt GOPers to rise to power. Why does Schmidt think Gov. Johnny is much different that Trump and all those who lavish him? Gov. Johnny has not used his state power to sue or deter any of Trump's egregious action on the people of his state.
Deems Steve clings to his old addiction.

This Independent voter will be aligned with the only party left in America that stands for what is right and decent and remains fidelitous to our Republic, objective truth, the rule of law and our Allies. That party is the Democratic Party.

---The weight greiving on Schmidt conscience seems earnest solemly heavy.
But Schmidt was hired at the MSNBC as an conservative anylist. Can he still fulfill that function at MSNBC ow? Does he get to take the place of those who were his sworn political enemy and be the Liberal/ progressive anylist/ commmentator/ Why does he get to take the place of long time lefties on a network with supposedly lefty media space?
Just because the right purged again and again until they got their NAZIs (white supremacist corporate wanabees for hire. Where Schmidt, like Sykes and the Hewitt is NO longer welcomed. They have a right to take this media time and portray the left with it? Just to have a home, paycheck and stay relevant like the Rudy?

---Steve, Why is it you cannot commit to this "only" political party that stands for your closest outlook of America (for which it stands)? Independent is a very big leap for you (i know). Is that all you can do in the gravest of times?
* Repentance in analogy here seems absent from your ideological lexicon. Where is the remorse of your actions? Asking forgiveness and making amends?

**It is a requirement to change your past.

There are too many instances of your past actions from introducing Sarah Palin and her ilk into the political arena to your candidate McCain. McCain who at one moment of candidacy went around singing, "bomb-bomb-bomb, bomb Iran" of which was the scrapping of the bottom feeders of the GOP for votes. A base to be fed more hatred by a presidential candidate who displayed little wisdom for the nation.
Sure, McCain caused me to pause and look closer at him when he had the decency to take the Mic from the crazy hair patriotic platoon seargent at that rally and come to Earth and reply Obama was not the hateful Arab Muslim terrorist sleeper she espoused.
There again, McCain at the onset took a stand on Abortion (GOP's baby nutriment for its radical religious base). Saying if his daughter was to get an abortion. He would want her to get the finest health care treatment in doing so.
But, McCain could not stand up to the scum of the GOP Earth base colony. He had to take the hard line of the radical religious right. For even then, for the primary of the GOP, they had to be kindled for campaign warmth. Even then, the political party had gone astray and the beast of many names possessed what soul of the conservative was left standing of its own free will.

--Part 2

The GOP called it the conservative family values. How a few demanded how the many are to live as they see it. Note Trump’s family values, Koch Brothers family values. Their conception of what your family values must be. Abortion not for you , OK for Elliot Brodie (wealthy GOP donor). Business fraud OK for Trump university, Faulding a bank by a customer means prison.

The GOP path in extreme wealth and control of airwaves to voter control by GOP state house majorities. To repay the debt to the Kochs, Adelsons of the world with Citizens United (to undermine the American voter).. Who do not have the best interest of America but extracted laws, Gorsuchs, Scalias and Alitos to the SCOTUS to be in place to get around the pesky democracy in which our founders enshrined constitutionally.
Atonement for much of this is required, lest you are not fully earnest in your republican rehab 12 steps.

And before you go out and 12th step others. You really need to fulfill the first 11 steps of the program.

But over all Steve, Welcome to the human race that actually cares and just doesn't say so because some billionaire needs you to say it to further his agenda on the American people.

Are not the GOP base and general election voters, the monied supply donors and the GOP devout paid hacks not the same as before but more so? And with Russian accents? Did not Manafort work in GOP earlier elections? The same Manafort who went to work for Putin's gain for manafort's own self profit. Over America ideals?
All the same Steve. Welcome to an entirely new world. Please catch up.

In Schmidt's statement, he acknowledges that he is not becoming a progressive in policy or values. I'm okay with that. We used to have two actual parties that both tried to govern. It's the lying, cheating, stealing, misrepresentation and destruction of government that I mind. I know that Schmidt's hands aren't clean in this arena, but if he helps us get rid of the current abomination that is the Republican Party, maybe we can rebuild a system of actual government and rebuild a discussion of governing philosophies that are arguable. I don't know. But like you, I'll take his position for now with appropriate skepticism.

The Republican party is on the brink of becoming the new American Nazi party and now this shitbird decides he has a conscience? He's got a head so dense he couldn't see his dessicating degenerate political party getting more and more rotten over the last 35 years?! Congratulations asshole, it only took a grotesquely moral issue for your brain pan to light up. Welcome to the resistance you rotten bastard but I have zero sympathy for ya Schmitty. Eat a bag of dicks!
