Gradually a Shot Rang Out

Don't worry kids; James Comey is going to be just fine.  In fact, he is well on his way to become one of the Beltway Elect.

After all, he reads just the right books.
He knows how to clutch just the right pearls in just right way (from the WaPo):
Comey says he was driven from the Republican Party by Trumpian politics

...
Well, here’s a bit of kindling for this fire: Comey now says he’s a Republican no longer.

He made that revelation in an interview with ABC News.

“In your heart of hearts, do you still consider yourself a Republican?” asked Brad Mielke, the host of the “Start Here” podcast.

“No,” Comey replied. “The Republican Party has left me and many others. I need no better evidence than their new website — which I think is ‘LyinComey,’ maybe? — attacking me. … I just think they’ve lost their way, and I can’t be associated with it.
He'll be declaring himself an "independent" and keynoting No Lables conclaves in 3...2...1...

But most important of all. he knows exactly to the day, longitude and latitude where boundary of Official Beltway "OMFG, The Republican Party Has Lost It's Fucking Mind!Event Horizon --
In general relativity, an event horizon is a boundary in spacetime beyond which events cannot affect an outside observer. In layman's terms, it is defined as the shell of "points of no return
-- is required to be (also from the WaPo with emphasis added):
“When did you see that change take place?” Mielke asked.

“Probably over the Trump presidency, and, probably began during the campaign of ’16?” Comey said. “Came to the conclusion that these people don’t represent anything I believe in.”
Yeah, except his Republican Party's crimes against our democracy have been dancing right past Mr. Comey's nose every single fucking day for virtually his entire adult life.

And yet, just like the rest of the Beltway Elect, Mr. Comey would have you believe that his Republican Party just suddenly snapped 16 months ago -- suddenly went from a responsible governing party to a dungheap of traitorous bigots and depraved imbeciles overnight.

Wow.  How utterly predictable.

I guess it's a good thing the former Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation never had job where, y'know, investigating things was terribly important.

Behold, a Tip Jar!

Well, to be fair, I don't think the Republican Party falls within the FBI's traditional investigative jurisdiction which, historically, covered groups of brown people exercising their rights; a left leaning organizations exercising their rights; unions exercising their rights; criminal organizations that DON'T cut conservative oligarchs in on their profits; and/or some non-conservative entity undermining conservative oligarch's corporate profits by exercising their rights.

Comey, like everyone else, thought a Clinton presidency was a foregone conclusion, and claims that he was positioning himself to be able to do his job in the atmosphere of endless congressional investigation that would surely accompany it.
I sort of feel like the head of the FBI should perhaps have a better grasp on likely outcomes than that, what, with "investigation" being in the name of the bureau he ran and all...
And then there's the idea that had he just followed the rules, he wouldn't be having to answer for, you know, not following them.
The book is about the same level of behavior as his CYA activities that got him in trouble to begin with, ethically speaking, but I'm sort of glad he wrote it, as I doubt there will be any long-form disclosures from any other important witnesses in the Russia investigation until after it has been decided.

When the awakening occurs on the operating table on a alien space craft you have been abducted and brought on to be studied.

As your eyes open and you notice you're strapped to a table on your stomach and this creature is probing with his high tech probe that is similar to a very large dildo. So deep into your body and soul going where no alein has gone before.
Was it the pain or the euphoric pleasure that caused you to wake?

At what time exactly and at what fork in the road di the GOP leave you?

Not here?
Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), the likely successor to House Speaker Ryan, told Fox News’s Sean Hannity explicitly on Tuesday night that the Clinton investigation was part of a “strategy to fight and win.”
He explained: “Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right? But we put together a Benghazi special committee, a select committee. What are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping. Why? Because she’s untrustable. But no one would have known any of that had happened, had we not fought.”

Or here"
Comey obligated during House testimony to advise of an future info to Select committee on Benghazi. (now email investigation from Chelsea to Japan's Ambassador emails)

Comey notify "investigative House committe of emails being looked at found on laptop. House committee Chair (Trey Gowdy) imediatly leaks tit to the press.. With no formal conclusion. A lot of innuendo and Manudo.
.

When exactly did the GOP leave these republicans?

Jeff Flake, Bob Corker, exactly when did the GOP leave you? Why do you still vote and defend this runaway serial killer? Yes, Comey as well.

I don’t think it’s fair to rope Reinhold Niebuhr into the willful blindness of Comey or the high and holy church of both sides do it. The through line of Niebuhr’s philosophy is that evil must be confronted and assumptions must be constantly challenged. He would not have given an inch to the death cult of human suffering that is the Republican Party. But everyone on this page knows that already.

Another Republican who cannot be honest with himself -- at least not in public.
