Brave, Brave Sir Jeffrey

When danger reared its ugly head
He bravely turned his tail and fled...

From Brother Charlie Pierce:
These are noble sentiments, to be sure, although one could ask [Senator Jeff] Flake in all good faith where in the hell he’s been over the 40 years of Republican politics that made Trumpism inevitable. One also feels constrained to point out that, unlike his colleague from Arizona, John McCain, Flake voted to strip millions of Americans of their healthcare, and that one of his last acts before hitting the silk was to vote on a budget resolution that is as full of moonshine as any Republican budget proposal has been since the party decided to take Arthur Laffer seriously.

Besides, it’s hard to parse Flake’s logic as anything but abject surrender to the monster that finally chewed itself out of the lab...
The fact that one may feel constrained to point out both Jeff Flake's complicity in the ruin his party has inflicted on this country and the fact that even he is no longer dangerously crazy enough to play in President Stupid's sandbox is probably why one does not get invited to share one's opinion on the Big Time Teevee Showz.

Yes brave Sir Jeffrey turned about
And gallantly he chickened out...

Which is why, very soon, there will be nothing left of the Party of Lincoln but the chicken farmers.

From me, back in The Time Before Trump:

To achieve electoral success, the Conservative Brain Caste bred a generation of adherents who are so completely unmoored from reality that the mere presence of facts that run contrary to the Wingnut Slogan of the Day automatically triggers a supercharged fight-or-flight reflex.  So congratulations Republicans --  you succeeded beyond your wildest dreams!

Of course, once you gave up on actual governing and turned your Zombie Army of Wingnut Purity loose to wreck the country in the name of Rush Limbaugh's idea of ideological conformity, it was only a matter of time before they would begin picnicking on each other.

Or, as one low-born, bootless blabbermouth once said about another Purity Cult, once purity itself becomes all you care about -- once  it becomes a distillery race to see who can get to 100% -- the chicken farmers are never far behind:
The main Islamist group in Algeria, the GIA, ended up being led by a Mr. Zouabri, a chicken farmer, who killed everyone who disagreed with him. He issued a final communiqué, declaring that the whole of Algerian society should be killed, with the exception of his tiny remaining band of Islamists. They were the only ones who understood the truth.

Behold, a Tip Jar!

Meanwhile, through the looking glass:
"3. Bernie Sanders and his diehards helped elect Trump by vilifying Hillary. verrit.com/the-frustratio… Should they pay a #TrumpEnablerTax?" Peter Dauo

A sitting US Senator who registered millions of Democratic voters, campaigned and voted for Hillary himself, and most importantly, votes with members of the Democratic Senate Caucus to mitigate the damage is a Trump enabler.
Your point is the truth of the bottom line: A Senator is as how he votes. Mealy mouthed political pundits who decry both-siderism are nitwits. The problem with you Driftglass is you focus your fire on center-right commentators like Brooks and Dowd, guys who have no influence on your readers or Democrats in general. I know two women who love David Brooks, one is a personal friend of his. They would rip out their own ovaries before voting for Trump over Hillary.
Peter Daou is the plaque corroding our arteries. Fools hurt the ones they love, make frenemies of valuable allies.
Your harshest critic, Bongo

Peter Dauo does not:

Have a sinecure at a major US Newspaper, and a weekly column to spread the bullshit. Like Dowd and Brooks

Get regularly fellated, I mean feted on all the teevee Very Serious Shows like Dowd, Brooks and that foul degenerate David Frum (in a just world, the man who coined 'Axis of Evil' to stampede us into a war should be condemned to walk the world with his lips sewn shut to prevent him from speaking ) or Andrew "decadent left in their enclaves on the coasts' Sullivan.

Get taken seriously by anyone...

"Virtually every female Clinton supporter I know (or follow) says sexist attacks and harassment from the left is worse than the right."

Who said it? David Brooks or Peter Daou?

Excerpted from a comment I left elsewhere on the subject:

And Jeff? And Bob? So you called out Fergus on your way out of the door. So? If you really gave a shit about the damage Fergus is doing to the country, there are several effective tools for stopping him within your grasp.

All you are really doing is being not quite honest enough to clearly state the truth about the Republican party: that it's so fucking crazy that even right wingers like yourselves can't win a primary any more.

Guess what? Neither could Nixon, Reagan, or Goldwater right now.

You know why that is?

It's because of you and your Republican brethren making it that way.

We tried to tell you it was a bad idea to fill your party with bigots, Pig People, and imbeciles, but you wouldn't listen to us.
As I recall, we got called traitors, fifth-columnists, and America-hating surrender monkeys for our trouble.

So your carping about coarseness as if it just happened when YOU elected Fergus is fucking adorable. And you seem to have entirely forgotten a little 1996 document entitled "Language: A Key Mechanism of Control."

You may be finding Fergus inconvenient to your political careers right now, what with the unwinnable primaries and all, but your idiot hordes LOVE Fergus and everything you say you hate about him.

Your base. Just the way you've made them since the dawn of the southern strategy.

But like I said, if you wanted to stop Fergus, you could do it. But you don't. You voted for the destruction of the ACA, you're still gonna vote for the Giant Tax Cut for the Filthy Rich, and you would be just fine with his behavior if you could still win a primary. And the sick thing about that is that it's not even Fergus' fault that you can't win a primary.

If you wanted to stop Fergus, you could have some meetings with each other, Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, and maybe a few other anachronisms in the Republican conference and announce that you will for the rest of your terms caucus with the Democrats.
Then the leadership of the senate switches sides and it's game over for Fergus' legislative agenda, and the brakes would be applied to his nominations to the judiciary.

Or fuck, if you're too cowardly to do that, just start putting holds on all of his (as of yet nonexistent) legislation, and judicial appointees.

"It is often said that children are watching. Well, they are. And what are we going to do about that?"

From the looks of it, you're gonna sit by and watch Fergus destroy their futures, and grab the pussies of the skinny, white, female ones.

Fuck the both of you. This is not new. You've been doing it for years.

I would have to resort to google to answer that definitively, but I'll wager a hundred quatloos it's Daou; that quote does not reference any Enlightenment Philosopher that Brooks has plagiarized from the blurb on the back of the Cliffs Notes version of their work, and implies that the speaker to actually claims to know human people, as opposed to Applebee's People.

This does not alter by one whit my opinion of the relative influence of Brooks versus Daou in the national 'conversation'. I'll gleefully stipulate that Daou is an ass and unhelpful, but he is a far less dangerous force than Brooks or Frum (who has actually had a hand in fomenting a genocidal war, yet is regularly consulted by eventheliberalMSNBC....)

Bruce desertrat, Daou doesn't have the same access to mainstream media as Brooks and Dowd, he does appear on TV from time to time. As far as I know, he's the only one of those three to have been retweeted by Blue Gal.

Flake, assuming he doesn't pull a Marco Rubio, is out next year. And McCain probably won't live to see his next election. If the Democrats start actually competing here they could pick up one or both of these seats. Kyrsten Sinema. was considering running against Flake. She's no Elizabeth Warren, but better than Flake or McCain.

Play canned Corker can't face being primaried by the Mercer Machine, so they'll abandon the Senate two candidates who might even make Mike Pence look half sane.

If one is to take Sir Jeffery at his royal loyal word.

He would not remain in the republican party the rest of the way. He can switch independent or for heavens sake Democratic.

It is just Sir Jeffery has these old family values , fiscal conservative republican religious values he so strongly wants to wrap himself in disguise with.
maybe he doesn't want his children to see what he truly is.

maybe he really has some belief that his God might see him out of costume?

Sir Jeffery still voted yes to take health care away from 20+ million people that happen to be American and some of them republican voters as well as some of his family members.

Just a principled man who requires the regal scent of a royal cologne splashed across his cheeks. To conceal the odor of rot.
