Professional Left Podcast #362

Then I said to them, "You see the trouble we are in: Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been burned with fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, and we will no longer be in disgrace."

The bloodless coup is complete. The Money has the trifecta, all three branches. Look to North Carolina for a map of things to come. The first and second order of business will be consolidation of power. Working diligently, like the Borg, to make permanent their agenda. There will be time for the dismantling of social progress and vengeance later. First, root out any need for compromise, eliminate any opposition to The Agenda. Then rule, not govern, rule.

A hint of hope from North Carolina: For North Carolina Governor, Democrat Roy Cooper is winning over Pat (Bathroom Law) McCrory. Perhaps athletes have more sway than pop stars.

Thanks for providing moral support in the wake of catastrophe. One irrefutable fact bears constant repetition -- the Democratic candidate won the popular vote. For once the Republicans and the corporate media should be forced to deal with that reality, which can't be flushed down the memory hole, and it's incumbent upon all of us to remind them each and every time they try to tell us that "we have to accept the verdict of the American people" or other such nonsense.

It is time to start thinking as an occupied nation, there are collaborators everywhere but the power is foreign. I don't know how to conduct myself like a guerrilla but the sooner we accept that worldview, the sooner we can learn how to resist.

I agree that there are probably many a voter who didn't think too hard about their Trump vote. Most I know did it out of pure hatred for Hillary and nothing more. Trump's first term could easily become like Bush's second term as American voters quickly turned on the 2004 election results that the media touted as a definitive mandate.

I think, like 2004, Democrats/Liberals/etc. need to position ourselves as the literal and symbolic disaster relief response team for when the political refugees from the impacts of the coming Randite-inspired legislation start hitting main street in Trump country.

The financial gut punch that a repealed ACA and Ryan budget alone could put Trump in the 30% approval by this time next year. Republicans were loyal "independent" Tea Partiers until the resulting budget cuts meant THEIR programs, schools, roads, hospitals, etc. were neglected, cut, or closed. They refused to support more of that "kitchen table fiscal responsibility" under Romney/Ryan in 2012.

"Democrats have occupied the White House for 16 of the last 24 years, and for four of those years had control of both houses of Congress. But in that time they failed to reverse the decline in working-class wages and economic security. Both Bill Clinton and Barack Obama ardently pushed for free trade agreements without providing millions of blue-collar workers who thereby lost their jobs means of getting new ones that paid at least as well

...Americans have rebelled by supporting someone who wants to fortify America against foreigners as well as foreign-made goods. The power structure understandably fears that Trump’s isolationism will stymie economic growth. But most Americans couldn’t care less about growth because for years they have received few of its benefits, while suffering most of its burdens in the forms of lost jobs and lower wages."

Thank you for going with a precocious dance-card.

Trump gets undue focus on both Left & Right due to being a consummate media whore, but never forget that he is a symptom of a fundamental manifold civic malfunction.

This surrealist horrorshow has a non-trivial silver lining: Trump is even more of a sheltered bumblefuck than Dubya was. Add to this that his coterie self-selects for goobers willing to hire on with a known payroll fraud. Talk to an old Russian before you scoff at the potential blessings of coexistence with clueless Kommissars. The warning that the next Trump won't be nearly as inept & head-up-the-arse as this one still holds true - now more than ever.

"It's not good for America but it sure is good for ratings!"

So old now I remember when news wasn't required to turn a profit.
Mid- to Late Triassic, as I recall.

In a sense Donny will be the least important cog in this administration. After they kill the filibuster, they will push through every nightmare of their swamp dwellers. The thinking will be to show them they can be productive. There won't be any team wonks to warn them of the dire consequences of most of these things because they'll be sitting in think tank towers, not in the West Wing. Donny wants to be a figurehead, not get his hands dirty. The Ryans of the world will be glad to oblige.

The notion that we as liberals need to forgive and forget, take the high road and unite with the opposition for the good of the country currently is a pill that I cannot swallow. Truth, honor, integrity and justice were all taken out back early Wednesday morning and shot in the head by a consummate media whore while pig people shouted him on to do so. What now? I don't recognize this country anymore or a major percentage of its citizens, people who are vicious and ugly, when they have no reason to be.

Thank you DG and BlueGal so much for this blog. Take care.

God I am so sick.
I am your age and it now seems my whole life is this metaphor;

There are people with torches standing outside my house. If I keep my eyes on them, and scream loudly enough, they don't burn my house down. Every four years, I have to watch them constantly and yell louder and louder....and yet, every 8 years, no matter how loudly I scream, they burn down part of my house.

In the past, I have been able to put out the fire before it consumed everything.

Now they have a flame thrower.

Thank you for this, I was in need of some sanity.
Two more bright spots in the shitstorm:
Joe Arpaio lost.
Barbara Lee won with 90% of the vote.

blackdaug, may I quote you on that in my local paper(s)?

@Neo Tuxedo:

Feel free. Though I think if I had actually thought it out...vs. just typing stream of consciousness...the last line would have been..."just watched my neighbors walk up with a flame thrower".
But then, I live in a very red state.and my first day out and about didn't feel very good..

The Left
Taking shit for being right since before you were born.

Well, we have your first ton of shit delivery of a massive order of tons of shit. Arrived and where would you like this first shipment dumped?

Recall way back during that far far away election of 2016. When one candidate said crooked Hillary broke the law and should be in prison. If elected Chanted at rallies in front of people repeating it, "lock her up". There was that debate, When you should be in "prison" got spoken.
Trump supporters waved pom poms and yelled, "hurray".

Fast forward and I listened to Trump speaking and asking or unity. He spoke of how strong Hillary was. How tough she fought. How prepared she was. "How this country owed her for all of her great service to the country from all these years".

Am I on a planet in the movie, Guardians of the Galaxy?

Can someone place a microphone in front of one of Trump's voters on this one?

You are all being told to bow down to Trump.
Not like the GOP did on Obama's inauguration day and vowed to make him a one term president even if America fails and collapses into Somalia.

You know, Donny didn't really mean all those fascist things. Forget about all these KKK members I break bread with. Lay down with flea infest animals. Get up with fleas you say?

What about all those anti Semites? Were they OK when the GOP invited Israeli Prime minister Netanyau to trash our sitting president from the Halls of Congress? On behalf of israel?
How does this align in the GOP coalition?

Real grateful you two were still trucking along the day after. Thanks for the words of wisdom, DG and BG.

And thanks for the words from Junior Dude and Middle Child too. :)

If you are a liberal and voted for Trump, you made a big mistake. After the Republicans push through their regressive agenda, you might regret that choice.

@John Taylor: Preaching to the choir there, neighbor.

Unknown said...

I know. Had to get it off my chest. Tired of hearing Bernie Bots crowing about how Bernie would have crushed Trump.

Robt said...

John,
Did you understate it by saying, "might regret"?

If some libs voted for Trump. You think they voted down ticket for all the Cons?

Some day before I leave this life, I demand it explained to me why Marco Rubio was elected? Completely Dumbfounded on this. I mean it is natural for all of Louie Gohmert's children and cousins to vote him back in. But Little Marco? Dismissed by Trump who won the state?
