She speaks for me.

To me, Molly and her words become more powerful as time passes.

Part of me wishes Molly were still here to help us all get through the next few years; the more compassionate part is grateful she doesn't have to live through this fuckery like the rest of us. She was the very best at what she did, and I still miss her words so much.

For some, that is true.

However, the rub is the Trumpkins believe (partly because Boss Limbaugh et al. tell them every day for 30 years) that they were the worlds most oppressed people and, fear-based or not, their vote was specifically to free themselves.

For most of them, they will gladly take whatever comes out of DC the next for years that will leave them poorer and less secure as long as they are free to remind other people of their "proper place" in our society and liberals are upset by it all.

I've been turning to videos of Molly to help me get through this, and I have put this very one in a few different comments I have left on various blogs. I watched one last night in which she referred to Roy Cohn as "one of the most despicable men who ever lived" and wondered what she would have to say about one of his disciples in the White House, and that's when it hit me: Molly Ivins has already done her job, now it's time for us to do ours. That feels like kind of a heavy lift, but she would admonish us to buck up and try to have a good time while we fought back against these fucking creeps. Here goes...

Yeah, I miss Molly as well. Comforting to hear her.

From the past she lives on.
But if conservatism is supposed to mean holding to tradition, things of the past . The good old days?

When I relish Molly Ivins and days of democracy flourishing. has that draw to those days of yore made me conservative now?
Yearning for the days of old?

Where is the baby boom version of Ivins? The millennial version of an Ivins?
So much for considering if I am the new conservative.

In pursuit of the wisdom of the past, I'm going to go back and reread Hunter S. Thompson's coverage of the 1972 election.

Yep, Molly Ivins was the best of Texas. There are a lot of wonderful, liberal Texans but they are overwhelmed by the obnoxious political culture of that state.

The important thing is to internalize Molly in your everyday work. Some of us may have more expression of that defiance than others but everyone has power.

Yeah, the power to throw things at TV's

The power to send an email to my House representative.

The Power to call my Senator's phone answering staffer who knows nothing.

Powah..............

The power to imagine if Obama went and found an old 1960's- black panther white hater and brought him into the white house as council to calm all the Elmer Fudds nerves.
