They Say We're Young And We Don't Know

We won't find out until we grow

The klaxon which blasts out warnings that there is something drastically and malignantly wrong with American Conservatism has been running continuously every god damn day for the past few decades. So loud and so clear that we on the Left have shouted ourselves hoarse asking, "Why the hell is no one but us paying attention to this?"

And yet, with every irrevocable line the Right crosses and every disaster they author, somehow, some way, the American political and media establishment manages to react in the same, predictable way.

Shock.

Followed by impotent hand-waving and vague suggestion that  just maybe, there may be something wrong with...something...and maybe someone really ought to do something.

Then they hit the snooze alarm, roll over, and go right back to dreaming their happy, Both Siderist dreams.

Until the next, inevitable outrage arrives.

And then, shock.

Followed by...

Anyway, in today's The Atlantic,not-exactly-conservative-but-not-really-libertarian-but-definitely-employable Andrew Sullivan protege, Conor Renier Friedersdorf, expressed his shock at how far the standards on the Right have fallen, and seemed to suggests (vaguely) that maybe someone oughta do something:

Breitbart's Anti-Semitic Attack on Bill Kristol
The popular right-wing website labels a neoconservative intellectual a “renegade Jew” for opposing Donald Trump.

For many principled conservatives, the rise of Donald Trump has proved to be a rude awakening. Their coalition is much less principled, and much more open to manipulative populism, misogynistic vulgarities, and xenophobic appeals than they imagined. As talk radio host Tony Beam put it on the day Ted Cruz dropped out of the GOP primary, making Trump the presumptive nominee,  “I have to face the fact that maybe that is who we are. You've probably seen the numbers. 6 or 7 out of 10 Republicans—I think it's been consistently 6 out of 10 agree that we ought to ban all Muslims from coming to the United States. And so maybe this whole thing is a collective voice saying to me, you think this is not who we are? Yeah, it is. Wake up, dude.”

Unfortunately, the rude awakenings keep coming.

For years, Breitbart.com, the web magazine of the populist right founded by the late Andrew Breitbart, has published laughably shoddy journalism, like the smearing of Juan Carlos Vera and the claim that a drunken President Lyndon Johnson boarded a plane and then accidentally dropped nuclear weapons on the United States.

Many conservatives have nevertheless regarded the site as part of their movement.

This primary season, the site has been aggressively pro-Trump. And here’s what Breitbart.com’s front page looked like late Sunday evening and early Monday morning...

That isn’t an anti-Semitic dog whistle—it’s a human whistle. You’d have to be deaf to miss it. And no, it doesn’t matter that the author of the article is himself Jewish...

Heh.

"principled conservatives".

Who knew that a not-exactly-conservative-but-not-really-libertarian opinion writer cold have such an aggressively absurd sense of humor?

What? Antisemitism on Breitbart? My stars! I got deleted from Breitbart once, one of the only times I've been deleted from anywhere, and I sort of deserved it. Don't feed the trolls, etc. They were talking shit about Oakland, and managed to sneak into my Google news feed, and I clicked on them before I saw who the link went to...

“renegade Jew”

I was under the impression the right loved them some Israel.

Trump knelt before AIPAC. Trump swapped spit with Netanyahu.

The NEO NAZI"a for Trump crowd embraced Trump even more for doing so.

The right wants to give Israel every American tax dollar they can. The House republicans invited Netanyahu to speak in the Congress. Which he use to trash the sitting American president

So use the Jew to smear the African American president?

Please, will a right wing neo NAZI who is willing to die for Israel please come forth?

Julie Ioff wrote an article that was very mildly critical, but mostly objective, about Melania Trump, and she was barraged with a ton of anti-Semitic hate mail and death threats. Of course, the Donald did not call the dogs off and shrugged off these disgusting attacks.

No love lost on my part over Bill Bloody Kristol, but one has to wonder why any Jew - well other than smarmy Shelly Adelson & Netanyahu, who would, no doubt, consort with Hitler if they thought it would improve their bottom lines - would support Trump.

But yeah, the ultimate oxymoron: principled conservatives. That's a laff riot, that is.

But it's always party before country. Was there ever any doubt?

There is this implied assumption from the MSM and Beltway courtiers that "principled conservatism" like "the party of ideas" is about good, honorable principles and good ideas. In fact, the GOP is about neither. Their core principles have, since the 1870s, been about promoting corporatism, business oligarchies and the removal of any regulation that is in the public interest. Since the early 1960s, they added to this by doubling down on "states rights" (oppression of women and minorities). Since the 1980s, they threw in big dollops of Christo-fascism and anti-science stances to this baggage of putrid principles and finally they put a big label called on the whole sorry mess. Of course, such a collection of overtly oppressive and mutually contradictory "principles" was bound to implode and it has and anyone surprised about this on the right is either a liar or an idiot.

You are snarling, right? Right-wing neo anything willing to die for ANYTHING?? You don't seem to get it. Bloody Bill Bristol, Blathering Bill O'Really, Conservative Hannity, Blimpbaugh, any of them,. NONE would put themselves within an oceans width of harm's way. That privilege belongs to "them". The ones who don't have rich connected parents, the same ones who could not claim five deferments from the draft because of other priorities, or whose parents could not get the into the National Guard, so they could go AWOL, or my favorite, St. Ronald of Raygun, who got to spend WWII cheating on his first wife while making anti VD movies in Palm Springs. I might have an ax to grind. While Raygun was blinking Nancy, outside of wedlock, my father to be, at the ripe old age of 17, was on the bottom of the China Sea in a overgrown cigar tube while Japanese sailors dropped 99 depth charges on his boat. They survived, but I to this day refuse to listen to RWNJ bullshit about what a hero Reagan was.
