Guess Who New York Magazine Just Hired...

...to type words in a row on such subjects as "the degeneracy of American conservatism","the Trump excrescence" and "the 2016 Democratic and Republican National Conventions"?

Nope.

Mr. Electrico?

Wrong again.
Andrew Sullivan joins New York Magazine

Andrew Sullivan is joining New York Magazine a contributing editor, the publication's editor-in-chief Adam Moss announced on Friday.

Sullivan, who made his name as a blogger, will write features throughout the year and cover politics, including the 2016 Democratic and Republican National Conventions. In a note on Facebook, Sullivan said his first piece is on Donald Trump.
...

"The year off was revelatory. It's only when you stop being pathologically attached to each ripple in the web-stream that you see most clearly how ephemeral so much of it is, how emotionally and nervously draining it can be, and how our discourse can be fatally distorted as well as deeply informed by the onslaught of the social web. I hope to write about what I learned in detox — it culminated in ten days of silent meditation last fall — soon," he wrote.

In a statement, Moss said Sullivan had been missing from the national dialogue...
So that happened.

On the occasion of my 11th blogiversary.

The Universe is very clearly trying to tell me something.

Ten days of continuous brainwracking thought by someone paid to think

...still won't be enough to arrive at "the liberals were right all along".

Andrew Sullivan.
Hippie-punching, god-humping, bell-curving, woman-slandering Andrew Sullivan.
Racist, sexist, egoist Andrew Sullivan.

I guess this proves that the only unforgivable behavior in the media is being right.

The very...actual...fuck....

This is why they give away free subs to the New Yorker like toilet paper at a beer festival. At this point, it's one giant real estate ad, buffered with fluff for the 1% to obsess over (like reviews of the best prenatal language instructors on the Upper East Side, etc).

Fucking A.

I already have something like a 2-year free sub through a combo of MediaBistro membership and "continuation" subs for magazines that were discontinues (so I get mailed this shit every week as a consolation prize). I may have to cancel them, or start seeing if anyone in my dog-friendly building wants to start a "poop pickup sheet" handout box near the doors. I'd almost volunteer to pull staples out of anyone's copy if they wish to donate.

I'll say it one more time...

What
The
Actual
Fuck

Jeronymous - Being on the other side of the pond I can't remember the last time I saw either in dead tree format but last time I checked New York and the New Yorker are very different magazines...

And I was wondering how long Andrew would be able to stand having to actually expend the minimum effort required to sell a piece as opposed to just having a right to publish any old thing you turn out because you are a contributing editor.

But anything that keeps him over there rather than over here in his ancestral homeland is to my mind a good thing.

There is a difference between New York & New Yorker mags. I haven't seen or read the former in I don't know how many years, and clearly, I've been one hella smart cookie for that... and will continue to avoid like the plague. Well most of these types of mags here in the YewEssAay ain't worth the paper they're printed on.

New Yorker is pretty much a shadow of its former self, and I make no effort to toss down the rather big bucks for it at the airport like I used to do. If someone shares one with me, I'll read it but find I'm skipping quite a few of the "articles" these days.

Yawn. Well well, so Sullivan got himself another gig. Guess he's whore-y enough for the PTB.

I'm ferociously irritated at this news. I like NYMag, and I really loathe Sullivan. I wish he could have set up his shingle elsewhere. By the way, doesn't he hate New York? Didn't he whine like bitch at all the inconveniences and noise and dirt of the place during his brief stint there. Princess and the pea. UGH.

One saving grace is that Little Lord Fauntleroy will have to deal with common commenters, the rabble. Still, fuck him.

Jonathan Chait and Andrew Sullivan, in the same building; it was structurally reinforced to hold their egos when? Oh and if you ever want to see a clusterf#ck of Reddit meets /b/ 4chan proportions check out their comments in DI, trolls on turtles, all the way down.

Sorry DG. In my heart I believe hacks like Sullivan, Brooks, Friedman and Kristol will get their comeuppance...hopefully in a public forum with you picking them apart so completely that your command of the intelligent liberal perspective can't be denied and seen by owners and editors of some major publication leading to a well paying, high profile job that you deserve. In the meantime know that there's plenty of people who appreciate your lucid, thoughtful and passionate commentary.

Droneglass.

A true American classic.

Bush v. Obama?

Trump v. Clinton?

Not a dime's worth of difference.
