David Brooks Isn't Real

We know where the Republicans of Moderate Disposition are.
They’re in the area around Manchester and Derry and east, west, south and north somewhat.
-- David Brooks, every single fucking day for the last 20 years

Last night, at the Republican caucuses in the already-forgotten state of Iowa, the explicitly theocratic fanatic and serial liar with the dentist's drill voice came in first, the fascist carnival barker and serial liar came in second, and third place went to a hard-core serial liar teabagger and serial liar with who promises to restart the Bush Regime's Imperial Conquest Machines with a vengeance, and torture anyone who looks at him funny.

Or, as Mr, David Brooks of the New York Times wrote it in a column with the most perfectly Brooksian denialist title ("Donald Trump Isn’t Real") I have seen in a long time:
The amazing surge for Marco Rubio shows that the Republican electorate has not gone collectively insane.
Wow.

So if Rubio coming in third signals the triumphant return the Conservative Establishment and the reification of Imaginary Republican Moderation which Mr. Brooks has been confidently predicting every fucking week for the last decade --
What happened in Iowa was that some version of normalcy returned to the G.O.P. race.
-- what shall we make of Donald Trump coming in second?
[Trump's] concession speech was an act of pathetic self-delusion.
Oh.  Ok.

And why is this true?

Well, if you cut through all the half-drunk late-night argle bargle about Vince McMahon and the WWF, as near as I can tell,  Brooks believes that Trump isn't real and Rubio could be the Second Coming of  William Henry Harrison because...
Social inequality is always felt more acutely than economic inequality.
Yeah, it doesn't make a lick of sense to me either.

But one thing I can be damn sure of is that, after composing his Battle Hymn of the Moderate Republicans, Mr. Brooks went right back to coping with the massive, ongoing implosion of his Republican party the same way he has coped with every massive, public, humiliating Conservative failure for the last twenty years: lock the door, fire up the home theater, put his copy of "Shy Guy" on infinite loop --

-- and pretend none of it is happening.

Because David Brooks Isn't Real.

Perhaps El Bobo has been watching too much of this actually funny Marco Rubio ad, and not enough of this one. Rubio's success says nothing about the sanity of the GOP electorate; it only shows that some GOP voters still have an inside voice.

Good afternoon, Mr. Glass.

I was going to make a comment about Mr. Brooks' Reasonable Republican Messiah being like King Arthur's "return from Avalon" mythology. Then I Wikipedia-d this, and there's a whole list of heroes who go into hiberation until the time that they're needed, like Captain America...

Be seeing you.

Hilarious that Rubio is suddenly the Grand Conservative moderate that Republicans have been waiting for just not voting for enough to win anything....wonder who the oligarchy decided that.

Rubio as "moderate" as General Franco/Batista/(Insert Latin America Right Wing Dictator here) were compared to Trump and Cruz's Mousseline/Hitler candidacies.

BTW Mr. Brooks, in western, democratic capitalist society social inequality IS economic inequality. Social inequality without economic inequality was limited to per-WWI European Royalty. My guess Whig-Fan Boy just got done masturbating to the latest Downtun Abbey episode and got confused which century this was.

Senator Water-Boy, aside from looking and talking like a bratty 12-year old is just not very bright. Put him up against either HRC or the Bern and he would get just steam-rollered. Even on the Sunday TeeVee Shows where they serve up pablum for interview questions, he still manages to mangle his way incoherently through one rake after another. Thwap, thwap, thwap. His vaunted 3-2-1 plan could easily become a 3-2-3-3-2-3-2-3- ad nauseum plan from one primary to another because not enough people take him seriously and just having gobs of money this year is not going to cut it.

Will BoBo also be teaching Pundit Math at Yale? In what universe (other than Rethug/Pundit Land) does coming in third equal a win? Even Trump, as narcissistic and megalomaniacal as he is, does not consider second place a "win".

Maybe BoBo can hire Karl Rove as a guest lecturer for Pundit Math, as long as Karl can tear himself away from looking for those votes in Southwestern Ohio.

Trump slathers on the fecal mousse in front of the cameras = BATSHIT INSANE.
Rubio & Cruz do too, but off-camera = PRESIDENTIAL MATERIAL.

Look me up, New York Fucking Times ... I work cheap.

Well, I don't usually defend David Brooks, but...

Trump and Rubio were practically a tie for second-place, and Cruz's victory may well prove an anomaly because the Religious Right has captured the Republican Party in Iowa to a degree that is not the case in most other states.

That said, with this and the Clinton-Sanders tie, Iowa was more interesting this election cycle than I think it ever has been since I was old enough to vote in a Presidential race! (Normally this would be the part where I would say "But I don't really care that much", but Sanders now has me maybe caring just a little teeny-tiny bit.)
