In Case You Were Worried

That Liberal Central Command would run out of things over which to further subdivide itself:
Netroots Nation is going to Arizona, Daily Kos is not
by kos

SAT JUL 19, 2014 AT 12:54 AM PDT
Netroots Nation announced two days ago that Phoenix, Arizona would host its 2015 conference. I wish the conference the best, but it will unfortunately take place without Daily Kos' attendance or assistance.

I made very clear in the wake of Arizona's passage of SB 1070 that I would not be setting foot in the state, nor spending a dime in it until the law was revoked. The law, however gutted by the courts, remains on the books, as does systemic harassment of Latinos, so my pledge still stands...
Every now and then I am reminded how very far I am from anywhere near the center of anything.

Don't worry about it, you may be closer to the center than you think - the center of things important, anyway.

Kos is a decent fellow, I respect his opinion even as I puzzle over the chain of decisions that allowed the hysterical ninnies to gain control over day to day operations. A few weeks back he shitcanned the worst of the worst, which humbled that particular gang for a spell and which may be glad tidings of a better future - although I am not holding my breath.

The Nutroots Notion thing seems to me a bit like Gaussian, Inc. We can quibble over Pople and whether he was the most deserving of the Nobel Prize, but he certainly put the wrong people in charge of the company and they repaid his generosity by squeezing him out. So now it looks like Yearly Kos will be divorced from its bastard child NN and an activist can pick his associates.

Because it's not like any of this actually amounts to anything important, anyway: just a bunch of self important little toadies hopping about, croaking to each other about the supreme importance of their little crusades.

Gaaah! When I think back to what we accomplished in 2006, the current gang of Kossacks turns my stomach.

Horace, I'd love to know more about the shitcanning--I've been away from DKos for almost a year because of the sheer number of lightweight diaries to slog through.

One other thing--you're not implying that Kos founded/thought of/organized/ran the original YearlyKos, are you? Because in truth, the only thing he had to do with it is to give the organizers, specifically, Gina Cooper, permission to use "YearlyKos" as the name.

Well I am a little more sympathetic to Markos, particularly on the point that New Kossacks would not turn their backs on LBGT folk and still demand union hotels but somehow don't think Arizona's over the top anti-brown racism is a deal breaker. And while Phoenix the City has a better reputation than the State, it is I think still embedded in Maricopa County

This is the common struggle for Progressives. How do you balance Pragmatism and Practicallity against Principle (and what the hell Praxis). We could call this the PR War except that has another not totally unrelated connotation.

Kos has a right to boycott NN and to take his 'Editorial Page' with him. I don't think this will result in a total shutdown of the Opinion pages. But who knows. After all Jane H was perfectly free to take FDL where she did. And in the process I got banned by pushing back on the party line on ACA. I doubt dKos will get the same sort of marginalization that I see at the Lake, there is more going on at DKos. But as a veteran of 'Screw'em Gate' where Kos deliberately threw his future as a democratic consultant into the pyre to make a point key to him I say "You go Man!"

Even as I understand essentially D party operatives like Booman/Longman or maybe Dayen/DDay taking a more pragmatic approach.

The Right in this country is so full of shit.

The Left in this country are so full of themselves.

Having said that, the funny thing about Kos' ineffectual boycott of an even more ineffectual organization is he'll be calling for all Kossacks to support a Democratic presidential candidate that will enthusiastically support the efforts of Likud.

It's no wonder the political climate of this country is dysfunctional.

It can't be avoided. It happens to anyone who is able to figure out that rich people aren't treated unfairly. Instantly you're smarter than nearly everyone around you and nearly every expert on national TV.

Metaphorically, I slapped myself on the forehead when I read Steeve's post. Why didn't I think of that?

Steeve, where do you want your 10,000 Internets sent? ^_^

Well, I don't see Markos saying everyone else should do as he's doing, but he staked out a reasonable position on Arizona some time ago, and he's sticking to it. Even when it makes some otherwise canny people shake their heads. Even when it might cost him or his website traffic or money.

I seem to recall there was a name for such conduct once upon a time. Ah well, no matter.
