Your Weekend Revisionist Stupid

DFB3
Courtesy of David Brooks.

Once upon a time, I had this nutty theory that:
...Mr. Brooks is engaged in a long-term project to completely rewrite the history of American Conservatism: to flense it of all of the Conservative social, political  economic and foreign policy debacles that make Mr. Brooks wince and repackage the whole era as a fairy tale of noble Whigs being led through treacherous hippie country by the humble David Brooks..
Nutty, I know, but what can you expect from a damn Librul, right?

/pause/

Hey, remember that thing when Richard Nixon cut the United States constitution into little, paper dolls so he could turn the American government into a giant clobbering hammer for carrying out his own petty, personal, political vendettas?  And then tried to use bribery and extortion to cover the whole thing up?

Well, behold David Brooks daring re-boot the entire, sprawling Watergate franchise as nothing more than Democrats trying "to win ideological battles through scandal means"...so that he can then use his magic powers of Both Siderism to avoid mentioning that we are now having witch-hunts over Benghazi because the GOP is run by degenerates and seditionists:
It’s a lot of Republicans. And a lot of Republicans were offended that some e-mails came out which seemed to suggest some of the political spin. And then there’s just the momentum behind an investigation. You begin to believe.

But I would go after the administration on Ukraine. I would go after them on Syria. There are big subjects to go after them on. But there is always a temptation, since Watergate, a very dysfunction in our politics to try to win ideological battles through scandal means. And it’s always bad for the country, I think.
It would be one thing if this had been written by some fatuous 12-year-old like Ross Douthat who had been weaned on reconstituted  Conservative pap, but Mr. Brooks was very much alive during the days when Richard Milhous Nixon walked the Earth.

Hell, it was in all the papers, and I believe there was even a movie about it:

Blog culture question for Drifty:

What real person was the original photograph subject in your recurring Photoshopped pic of Brooks as a faux little boy?

Blog culture answer: I don't remember. I ran across it searching for something else, dropped it into my holding pen and used it some time later

"12-year-old like Ross Douthat"

Congratulations, you win the internetz today.

In other news, the Crazy Cat Lady over at the David "no, seriously, I'm a big deal in my county political machine" Atkins blog is beginning to suspect that the campaign to sabotage Democratic electoral prospects might have a down side: http://digbysblog.blogspot.com/2014/05/starting-wave.html

There is more to it than "beat up Democrats (something, something) then we win!"

I completely understand the contempt and repudiation for the paid propaganda or the re writing of history Brooks is hired to perform.

It is a pathetic mind that does such knowing the harm it causes,

Yet,
It pays well, allows for the false sense of significance.
Most of all--IT WORKS---on some..

For instance, A fellow I knew (a Beck-er-Head) I call him. began going down the Tea Potter spout. Trying to cite Constitutional proclamations as he thought he knew them or was told over the radio.
One day he was reading Thomas Paine's writings of "Common Sense".

At a closer look I found that the Thomas Paine book was a rewrite, the author was Glenn Beck.

I offered the original version from Thomas Paine himself I had ion my bookshelf.
He got very annoyed and irritated that I would offer such a thing to him.
I mean, couldn't I see that he was reading the "word" of Thomas Paine (a near founding father) as Glenn Beck rewrote in Beck's infinite wisdom to give intellectual break downs on what Paine said and wrote?
How dare I offer this original version of Paine to him when he has Beck's version? I must be a Librul trying to mislead him from the Tea Pot.

Beck sold some of his re visioned smut. The first sign of this was when he began calling CNN the Communist News Network becasuse they weren't FOX so do not trust Libby.
This is the horrible sign of out right propagandizing the American people. Especially the uninformed weak minds who are very susceptible. This is why the religious right are so closed minded and susceptible to the rights ordain-ness. Why a self righteous religious person could vote for the family values of Food stamp cuts, cuts to unemployment during the greatest time of need, while giving Billions to the oil companies.
Voting for four wives Newt Gingrich or 5 deferment war hero Dick Cheney.
But I contend, Brooks' is paid well, lives in comfort, invited to the club house and when his time comes, he will be eulogized eloquently by a fellow club member as Bloody Bill Kristol. Because Kristol will be paid well to inflate Brooks' revisions of the past of the past.

Oh, and Happy Mother's Day to all you Mothers out there.

...It's a marketing still for the 1959-63 TV series "Dennis the Menace".

Interesting development from the hysterical ninnies over at the Daily Kos: they are beavering away at the narrative that the awesomeness that is Senator Warren was made possible by the purity trolls withholding their votes from Coakely, which put Brown into the Senate after Senator Kennedy passed away. This punishment allegedly forced the party establishment to green light a progressive candidacy in lieu of the DLC squish who otherwise would have been foisted on the state.

They can believe what they want, but I am curious as to how forceful they will be in taking credit for the watering down of the ACA as a result of Brown's obstruction. Given their howls of outrage that Obama DIDN'T.EVEN.TRY to get a better bill, it difficult to accept their claims of indifference to the man who ACTUALLY TRIED TO KILL IT ALL.

Not that internal consistency is the hallmark of your garden variety hysterical ninny, mind you.
