Professional Left Podcast #231

ProfessionalLeft
"So keep fightin' for freedom and justice, beloveds, but don't you forget to have fun doin' it. Lord, let your laughter ring forth. Be outrageous, ridicule the fraidy-cats, rejoice in all the oddities that freedom can produce. And when you get through kickin' ass and celebratin' the sheer joy of a good fight, be sure to tell those who come after how much fun it was.".”

A decent progressive, a decent leftist, wouldn't bear any confidence in even the most modest of conservatives. After you burn the Republican party into the earth and piss on its ashes ... you leave it alone, checking on it every now and then to ensure no one has formed a shrine around it, or that no bubbles have surfaced in the cess pool of piss and ashes.

Bill Clinton never had a Democratic operative killed but he did dismantle All the legislation that protected us from the excesses of our economic system.

Thanks to the greatest president in U.S. history we are still experiencing an ongoing global economic catastrophe that transferred trillions of dollars from everyday Americans into the hands of global oligarchs.

Again, thanks for not killing Vince Foster, President Clinton but you are a horrible asshole for destroying my country to help out the Wall Street buddies that got you elected.

Please keep doing both the regular podcast and sci fi university. I make an edit that has just sfu and email it to a technically challenged wingnut relative, who loves the sci fi questions but doesn't know about the rest of the show. This has been going on for 4 episodes now. I'm sure his head will explode the day he learns the truth (if ever) but it's a way to get your foot in the door of his universe.

Just Friday I did it again, mailed the sci fi only part to a rand paul 'taxes are slavery' co-worker.

Sci fi is the glue that can (help) unite are different universes.

I think BG still has one more audio one from me she hasn't got to yet, can't remember. When you guys are in danger of running out just mention it on your show and I'll make another.

Cheers,
Mag (the very first blog on my blogroll was sullywatch) Epub

Actually, a lot of that had to do with the Republican control over both branches of Congress at the time. While you can fault President Clinton for not fighting back hard enough (lord knows I do) that hardly makes him CLENIS the DESTROYER of ALL THAT is GOOD AND HOLY!

This kind of unbalanced whining makes the Democrats the sole owners of the disaster in Iraq because they did not fight hard enough to stop Bush when they had the chance.

Both cases have the seed of an idea, but are pushed to ridiculous extremes.

Horace,
Thanks for the response. I'd like to have a discussion about the role of our two parties in creating the ongoing Global Financial Crisis that (in my opinion) has destroyed millions of people’s lives all over the planet.

If you don't have time to read this rather lengthy post, then please watch the signing ceremony of the GRAMM-LEACH BLILEY ACT. This 30-minute signing ceremony is an indication of what Clinton thought of his actions at the time...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkG4iXiZCQE

If you have a bit more time, please keep reading.

My view is that Driftglass has it fundamentally wrong. I'll briefly paraphrase Driftglass. You let me know if I straw man his position:
“Republicans are the real problem in American politics today. Sure Democrats aren't perfect. Nobody is. However until the Republican Party is destroyed and rebuilt from the ground up, there will not be progress on any of the issues we progressives hold dear. Both sides don't. Republicans do. Reform their party and progress can be made. Democrats do some bad stuff, but like you say, they are usually forced into bad positions by a better organized and well funded opposition.”

This view is empirically and demonstrably incorrect. I supply plenty of evidence that this view is false. The evidence that the Driftglass position is in fact false is everywhere and almost infinite. The active part that the Democratic Party has taken in the destruction of our nation is part of the historical record. The above link is just one example of this.

I think I’ve proven that the lens Driftglass uses to understand our political system confuses the challenges we face to create a world worth living in. Perhaps another time I’ll argue in favor of another lens that I think properly exposes the problem we face as a nation.

Driftglass and I have fundamentally different views about what the problem is. This is important. We have to know what the disease is before we embark on a cure. A misdiagnosis can cause more harm to the country than good.

As an aside, I don’t think I’d use the phrase that Clinton was “CLENIS the DESTROYER of ALL THAT is GOOD AND HOLY!” I definitely would say that he expanded the program started by Reagan. In fact he completed his predecessors project. That project did indeed destroy the entire global economy. Trillions of dollars were taken out of all of our pockets and they were given to global oligarchs like George Soros and Rupert Murdoch. When Clinton’s chickens came home to roost, Bush the lessor started the wealth transfer and Obama finished the job. These are just facts drawn straight from the historical record.

And ya know what? Real, easy to implement and workable alternatives were available. Sad when you think about.

So Both Sides do
Or
Both Sides Don’t

Tune in at eleven and join our all-star panel with Brit Hume, Cokie Roberts, with special guests Cliven Bundy and Ted Nugent.

This is the easiest way to spot a liberal who doesn't deserve to be listened to. Glass-Steagal was dismantled by a veto-proof majority of congress. Blaming Clinton for it makes you an idiot.

And at the time it happened, you didn't care.

Thanks for your thought provoking post steeve.

Just for giggles click on the link to the 30 minute signing ceremony. As you watch try to get a sense of what all the principals thought they were doing. The excuse for Gramm is he is and was a dunderhead who actually thought he was doing God's work.

What's Clinton's excuse. I think he doesn't have one. He was simply doing exactly what his constituents (those who paid for his campaign, i.e. Wall Street donors) wanted him to do.
