Today At The Conservative Slop Trough

toolz

For some reason, Brother Charles Pierce's reporting today on the game of Musical Jobs currently underway in the world of wingnut welfare cut into me at just the wrong angle:
The Washington Examiner is one step above that which you find under your windshield wiper at a flea market. The National Review's reservoir of ambitious young white supremacists seems bottomless. (And that's not even to discuss the various feeder systems in operation.) So some of the kidz are changing jobs to go with what appears to be the "hot" new entry? Big deal. The universe of wingnut welfare is completely self-contained. Why anyone would find this development surprising is beyond me...
Still, the thing is, they pay.  From foot-soldier to field marshal, the Right and their Centrist enablers find ways of supporting their troops.

And after a long time of shaking a tin cup for the Good Cause while the brookses and the kisz take home paychecks of various obscene denominations, the just thought of having a van for my wife and stepkids that isn't a rattletank of parts and scraps now sounds as distant and opulent as four months on the Riveria.

I don't think a man who readily supports Greenwald, also a recipient of "billionaire that hates the government" bucks who markets media to crazies and cranks, has any right to bitch about wingnuts and welfare ever again.

This is insanely hypocritical on his part. Sadly I think the old Irishman is wet in the head and probably doesn't realize this. It could also be that refusing to realize this is good for his employment. Take your pick, it's one or the other... or IMHO it's both, Pierce is a hypocrite who found himself a damn good grift that will pay for all the curse of the Irish in the world.

As I think I've said before in comments on this blog, I'm seeing Brother Charles as on the same side as Greenwald (or, at least, the side Brother Glenn says he's on), but I don't see that as "readily support[ing]" him. The Charles Pierce whose blog I'm reading, when he writes about the issue that has the biggest bug in Glenn's ear, does his level damnedest to take the focus off what Edward Snowden did, and even off Glenn Greenwald, and keep it aimed squarely at (say it with me, class; say it phonetically) "the all-too-human, yet [adverbial]ly error-prone, heroes" who carry out the steps predicted as necessary by the Zola algorithm.

Can you please elaborate.

Greenwald is getting paid in billionaire government hating wingnut bucks.

Pierce either needs to condemn Greenwald and back away from that rats nest, or he needs to stop bitching about people not voting, "because both sides", Rand Paul, and wingnut welfare. Because right now he's just a hypocrite getting paid to be one.

He praises the very thing he complains about the moment and idolizes a man who's stated goal (Democrats not voting) is something that Pierce gets upset about.

The man is either a liar for the sake of money, a hypocrite, or just your typical Irish drunk.

Anon@3:42 - Can you link to a post where Pierce "idolizes" Greenwald? My impression is that Pierce mostly tries to keep his opinion of Greenwald and Greenwaldism separate from his coverage and analysis of the ongoing story Snowden's leaks have generated.

I can't recall specifically, but I vaguely remember Pierce expressing some frustration with (albeit not condemnation of) Greenwald's hysterical style. But I could be misremembering.

I cannot imagine that his post makes Driftglass feel any better, as the comments so far are limited to attacks on Charlie Pierce and whether he has the "right" to criticize wingnut welfare.

For what its worth I had a similar epiphany today, when I met the former CFO of my old company over lunch. He was canned the same year I was in 2001, and while he bemoaned the fact that the CEO who shot us just retired a multi-multi-millionaire, and we had "missed out" at the corporate though, I could only think that I was at peace with what happened. I am fine with my decision to become an immigration lawyer, even though it means a modest income and that I can never retire. I don't look back: no need.

Cheer-up Driftglass. The wingnuts at the trough are whores, and you're not. It's the price you pay.

The ritual excommunication of Brother Pierce continues, by people who would cheer Greenwald and Snowden as heroes if the Emperor whom they embarrassed had an (R) rather than a (D) after his name.

I quit reading Charlie because of his position on Snowden's "revelations". Bob Cesca has extensively documented misleading reporting from the Guardian and other news outlets based on the stolen documents, and Charlie Pierce criticized him on his blog. Bob responds here: http://bobcesca.thedailybanter.com/blog-archives/2013/12/look-whos-attacking-me-again.html
He also links to Charlie's critical article. Clearly Charlie buys into the notion that the evil government will inevitably get in your grill regardless of laws passed and processes put in place. I totally agree with Anon.

Monster from the Id said...

Likewise, I suspect that many of the people who ARE cheering Greenwald and Snowden now would condemn them if they had embarrassed the Empire under a Reptilian Emperor rather than a Dinocratic Emperor.

Party hackery is one thing that Both Sides actually do share. ;)

Listen up, y'all:

I'm a member of the Purity Caucus™, and as such, I'm above all of this petty voting for candidates who can actually win and possibly change stuff drivel.

Instead, I'm going to come here and lecture every last mother fucking one of you for not voting for Purity Caucus™ candidates who won't be getting elected and won't be changing any of the policies we loathe.

Because Both Sides. That's why. Sure, right wingers and centrists consider me and my Purity Caucus™ members radicals and don't give us a voice anywhere. And sure, the media doesn't provide any moderate libruuls a voice anywhere.

But since libruuls refuse to stop voting for real candidates, it means y'all are stupid, drone terrorism supporting pieces of shit, and all of this is basically your fault.

Because Benghazi...er, because NSA security state and neoliberalism.

Also: Droneglass.

Sincerely,

Purity Caucus™ member #87

Ooooh purity caucus, ZING! That's what you get when you complain that your water is still brown when it is obviously two shades lighter than the other water. Drink up and quit your whining.

The saddest thing about Droneglass is how desperately he "keeps the faith" with a ruling class that hasn't got enough common sense left to make use of his considerable talents.

It's like one of those Readers Digest stories about the guy who dies of a heart attack at work... and for years afterwards his dog keeps going to the front door at the same time each day expecting him to come home.

Lumpy, I don't know which the hell Driftglass you're reading, but it's not the one who's devoted so many posts to Clout Club and its central position in the basic awfulness of American politics. (Oh right, you're not reading Driftglass, you're reading somebody called Droneglass. I wish to hell you'd comment on his blog instead of this one.) :P

Droneglass has earned his name: like that constituency of co-thinkers so well represented here, He is a liberal who remains unconditionally loyal to the 'democratic' face of U.S. imperialism.

He refers to the Pentagon and its crimes abroad on behalf of finance capital as 'we'.

He has minimal (if any) concern about NSA, drone murders, torture etc., because he looks to the bourgeois state apparatus as a fundamentally benevolent vehicle for progressive reforms (and must suppress the rising stacks of evidence to the contrary).

Hence his fixation with Greenwald, and hatred for those like Assange, Manning and Snowden who - departing from proper channels - lay bare the inner workings/crimes of 'his' government.

A term I have never used nor an opinion I hold. I simply disagree with him on some things while agreeing with him on (most) others.

Fixed that for you.

Monster from the Id said...

Indeed, most of the sociopaths who misrule us are "blah" people--not very interesting, really. The phrase "banality of evil" comes to mind.

Remember, folks.

If you'd rather vote for the lesser evil in order to slow the right-ward lean of the country, you support fascism.

If you instead bitch and complain while voting for Mickey Mouse or whichever candidate isn't even laughed at because they aren't known, then you're a true 'Murrican, as the Purity Caucus™ members #77, #22, #209, and # 91 bleat here, over and over and over again.

Remember, folks, vote Republican or stay at home, because voting for a Democrat makes you a vociferous supporter of international drone terrorism.

Also: Droneglass.

Right, Lumpy, driftglass pining for a liberal counterpart to the right-wing sinecure machine perfectly reveals his adoration for the bourgeois state apparatus. It all makes perfect sense.
