"[Carl] Bernstein voted for McGovern, unenthusiastically and unhesitatingly, then bet in the office pool that Nixon would win with 54 percent."
-- All the President's Men
what, wasn't there a Green Party candidate to waste his vote on?
54% wasn't really close
I believe it was Mr. Pierce who pointed out not long ago, that Watergate was about the only thing the Post ever did right, and then they spent the next 40 years trying not to do it again.Katherine Graham never met a fascist who was too poor to not make a dinner party guest list.Of course, Woodward is now the Dennis Miller of the journalism world, without the vocabulary, and Bernstein probably voted for Reagan next time out....and made his money back betting on Ronny to boot...
