This Made Me Laugh

"Still silence from Dick Morris who, if his sense of shame had not been surgically removed, would resign from every gig he has, including Fox. George F Will and Michael Barone need to resign as well. It's one thing to be wrong. It's another thing to be so totally wrong, so utterly out of it, and yet remain as columnist and pundits with any smidgen of credibility. Accountability, please."

-- Andrew Sullivan, 11/06/12
The careful reader will note how Conservative pundits with a long record of moral amnesia, stunning ignorance of American history and culture, and ideological pyromania are always anxious to draw that clear, bright Line of Accountability juuuuust after they personally have hidden their lighter and gas can and scuttled away from the fires they helped to ignite.

The careful reader will also note how, even though "totally wrong...utterly out of it" is every bit as much David Brooks' stock-in-trade as it is Dick Morris' and Michael Barone's, Conservative pundits who want credit for boldly speaking fearless truths but also want to retain their jobs as Conservative pundits only ever go after low-hanging buffoons, Fox News frauds and other completely career-safe targets.

It appears that Andyboy has been reading your blog Driftglass. "Have you no shame Mr. Sullivan, have you no shame"?

Yes, Andy was on Colbert last night, pining for conservatives to return to the days of sanity..when they supported gay marriage, climate change..and hated all war.
I must have missed those days...maybe I was taking a nap.

As soon as I read this last night I knew you'd be cackling out loud over it.

So Brit Hume admits that maybe the Right misjudged the country. And Newt Gingrich admits that maybe the Right misjudged the country. And Rush Limbaugh admits that maybe the Right is outnumbered.

I saw this described as "eating Humble Pie", and then thought, "The problem with the Right eating Humble Pie is that they'll just crap it out in a few hours anyway."

Remember you're targeting a man who is still completely and utterly faithful to a religious figurehead whose doctrine is that this man, and everyone else like him, will descend shrieking into the Pit Of Fire at the End of Days.

Speaking of going after completely low-hanging buffoons...

Cognitive dissonance is a vital defense mechanism, especially for conservatives in as deep as Sullivan.

The gorgon dare not look at its reflection, lest it turn to stone.
