R.I.P. Larry Hagman

Who was more than a sitcom astronaut and a soap opera villain.

Fail-Safe, yes! I think his TV successes made people forget that he could actually ACT...

As a friend of mine noted:

"He survived 17 years with a liver transplant. He turned his life around from severe alcoholism (bad enough to require a liver transplant). He was married for sixty years to the same woman, without scandal, in the cesspit that is the 'entertainment business' and during which he was an alcoholic for a large part of the time."

Funny how it takes losing someone for this information to percolate through to more common knowledge...

Since his liver transplant in the mid 90's, he was one I was always surprised and happy to see alive and kicking.
One of the dwindling great products of Tejas and..
Truly, a kindred spirit....

"Hagman told the Times that after death he wanted his remains to be "spread over a field and have marijuana and wheat planted and harvest it in a couple of years and then have a big marijuana cake, enough for 200 to 300 people. People would eat a little of Larry."

I just learned he was Mary Martin's kid, and while she will always be Peter Pan, she did have some acting chops, too.

I always found his giggle-laugh infectuous. I think you can tell a lot about a person by his/her laugh. I'm guessing he was a good guy. And anyone who smoked weed with Jack Nicholson has to be pretty cool.
