What's In The Briefcase, Mittens?

With the Maginot Line of the American media now firmly in the hands of Establishmentarian fingerpuppets like Mark Halperin and David Gregory, it is entire possible that Willard Romney could Palin his way (take up permanent media residence at Fox News while ducking, whining, stonewalling and lying the rest of the time) clear to the White House. GOP.

That is possible.

But it doesn't mean that interest in how Willard Romney has used his influence to carve out new channel through which his wealth can flow away from the United States and towards Switzerland and the Cayman Islands through  tax returns will wane down here among the groundlings.  Sure, once Chuck Todd and Andrea Mitchell get bored with being told "Fuck off!" by their financial superiors sooner or later (well, sooner) they will obediently lope off to chase the Next Shiny New Thing around the dog track.

But for the rest of us, speculation about precisely how the Plutocrat Who Would Be President has gamed our poor, crippled system will remain a fascinating mystery.

And we love a mystery.

About a month ago, after telling myself that no one will EVER fall for the flip-flopping bullshit Romoney deals out daily, I started to realize with a shock of sweating fear that no matter how phony R is, and no matter how nobly and intellectually powerful O's message is, it probably doesn't matter a whole fuck of a lot. With the media firmly in the back pocket of Romoney's "woman" jeans and the Dims and O too cowardlyl to anger their corporate masters, there's a good chance R will coast to victory, greased by the hundreds of millions Rove and others will pour into his dishonest campaign....WE ARE WELL AND TRULY FUCKED!

Drifty,

Let's hope we all still care about the maguffin in Rmoney's past whether he gets elected or not. Unfortunately, I am not so optimistic as it is sooooo easy these days to take the rapt attention of too many voters and direct it onto the sleaziest and stupidest of issues. And for those who cannot be mis-directed? Various voter suppression techniques are already underway (caging, robo calls, photo ID, etc etc etc). Heck, I won't be surprised to hear that the "anti-New Black Panthers" are out patrolling precincts to make sure that only the "right" people vote and no "voter fraud" occurs in the ghettos! In the end, it will all come down to money - and who spends the most of it. That one indicator is the best tell of the November result. And you can be sure, the plutocrats in charge of our society today, especially the media owning plutocrats, are more than happy to make sure they squeeze each and every dime from every campaign war chest in the land - down to the lowliest school board candidate. Because for these "people," it's not about governing, it's about making sure the cash cow that elections have become never, ever dries up.

For all its reputation as part of the uniform of the office rank and file, the briefcase is fundamentally a very useful, very practical way to keep documents safe and clean on the way to the office and back.
