In Case You'd Forgotten Why The Media Sucks

Pacino learns the Two Commandments ™:
1: There is a club.
2: You are not in it.

Yeah, but you know what?

This is the song of a million penis-envying feminists.

The song of a billion brown people.

We're not in the club in part by accident of non-boomer birth, but then again so is just about everybody.

And you ARE in a club, dg. You have double the traffic and triple the comments of some blogs you know, ahem. :)

Would that equal merit met equal reward on every level.

I think we bloggers have got to wake up and realize this well doesn't have any supporting money in it. I'll go back to teaching or retail or computer help desk or cleaning up a nursing home eventually.

And we'll stop watching MSNBC and Comedy Central and generating traffic for Huffpo and Wapo forever. Amen.

That doesn't mean I'll give up having my own lovely little public art studio, but I won't spend nearly enough time there. Sigh.

I think this might interest you: the author is an ex-editor of the SF Chronicle who says that writers have to quit working for free, which is a point you make now and then... he is encouraging writers to go on strike. Wow!

There are these job boards in Silicon Valley where they run reverse auctions (low bidder wins) for freelance work, and often times I see someone willing to do a job for free "to get their foot in the door," or some other bs. They bring down the profession, they lower everyone's wages, they encourage companies to fire them all and hire 'em back as piece work contractors.

I interviewed at Palm over the summer; they have virtually no permanent employees any more. The whole company is run as an outsourced project. They are not the only ones, I'm sure.

It boggles my mind that we cannot get a writer's guild off the ground here, or Communication Workers of America in the door in silicon valley.

But no one is in it.

Except them.

(See Glen Greenwald on bankster money moving from Obama back to rightwingnutters. The club door closes.)

Wall Street Owners Angry with Their Purchase

And Ten is right. As far as it goes.

It boggles my mind that we cannot get a writer's guild off the ground here

From the article Greenwald cites:

And industry executives and lobbyists are warning Democrats that if Mr. Obama keeps attacking Wall Street "fat cats," they may fight back by withholding their cash.

Emphasis mine.

Wall Street puts its cash with power.

Period.

If the 2010 midterms looked as though they were going to be a Dem blowout, the money would be flowing to Dems like thorazine in the dayroom of a mid-sized mental hospital. If a Republican blowout, the money would go that way.

It doesn't matter what Obama says. All that matters is who is going to control the government and its regulatory apparatus.

If Jamie Dimon is sending money to the Republicans its because he thinks they are going to be running the show. That's pretty much it.

And Citizens United means that no one knows how money will be directed in the near future. We'll find out in November, and get an even clearer picture in 2012.

Greenwald really needs to calm down.

With regard to The Club: time to form our own.
