Terrorist leader declares:

“We will fight on and destroy the hated Yankee Occupier!”

One of the great and enduring mysteries of Bush's Iraq War will undoubtedly be this question: Why were Red State Republicans so completely incapable and/or unwilling to com-pre-hend what a napalm-slathered W.A.S.P.’s nest their President has stuck our collective national dick into?

Was it willful blindness, or some kind of “Look away, look away, look away” hydroencephalic Dixieland disorder, that let them believe that we were just going to knock off the government of Saddam Hussein and dirty dance down the boulevards of Baghdad like an up-armored, Busby Berkley kickline with nary a discouraging word.

Very odd, this.

Perhaps these Southron folk just don’t understand resistance movements?

Perhaps, being a genial, tolerant -- nay, Ewok-ish -- people and having no history of fighting on and on, decade after decade, using terrorism as a tool of police-statecraft, they would have no way of grasping how a movement can last and last and last? Go on killing innocent civilians year after bloody year, even though their ideology is plainly degenerate and their leaders are bigots and fascists and hate-mongering religious zealots.

But then again, that’s kinda hard to reconcile with this…

From the wholly imaginary Baghdad Times-Picayune...
Radical Cleric, Ayatollah Jefferson Davis, said in a rare interview today that he and his hundreds of thousands of rejectionists and regime dead-enders repudiate the offered “political solutions” and have vowed to make continual war on the “Northern Aggressor” for so long as they still set one foot on Southron Soil.

Refusing to respond to the Secretary of Defense’s assertions that “these people have no political agenda. They have no vision for the future.” Ayatollah Davis said simply that he “would like to condemn and denounce the Occupier’s Puppet government’s decision to legalize the occupation."

Any electoral activity, he warned, conducted with the “boot heel of the oppressor stepping on the throat of our beloved Confederacy is, in reality, designed to legitimize the occupation, rather than ridding the country of the occupation."

Although the Union, formally declared its mission in the former Confederacy to be accomplished two years ago, it still has nearly 140,000 troops in the country.
Many do not realize that Ayatollah Davis began his political career years before as a member of the Senate of the United States itself. And while is has become fashionable for our Red State Rush-monkeys to wrap themselves in a gauze of fake history and manufactured myth that the War was about a noble, nebulous concept of “state’s rights” instead of being about the continuation of the obscene and morally indefensible institution of slavery, Ayatollah Davis made it crystal clear exactly what this War was really about in this excerpt from address to the Provisional Congress of the Insurgent Provinces of the States of America (emphasis added):

"In the meantime, under the mild and genial climate of the Southern States and the increasing care and attention for the well-being and comfort of the laboring class, dictated alike by interest and humanity, the African slaves had augmented in number from about 600,000, at the date of the adoption of the constitutional compact, to upward of 4,000,000. In moral and social condition they had been elevated from brutal savages into docile, intelligent, and civilized agricultural laborers, and supplied not only with bodily comforts but with careful religious instruction.

Under the supervision of a superior race their labor had been so directed as not only to allow a gradual and marked amelioration of their own condition, but to convert hundreds of thousands of square miles of wilderness into cultivated lands covered with a prosperous people; towns and cities had sprung into existence, and had rapidly increased in wealth and population under the social system of the South; the white population of the Southern slaveholding States had augmented form about 1,250,000 at the date of the adoption of the Constitution to more than 8,500,000 in 1860; and the productions of the South in cotton, rice, sugar, and tobacco, for the full development and continuance of which the labor of African slaves was and is indispensable, had swollen to an amount which formed nearly three-fourths of the exports of the whole United States and had become absolutely necessary to the wants of civilized man." (1)
So there you have it; the insurgency led by Ayatollah Davis had shit to do with high-minded principle and righteous philosophy. Quite the contrary, Ayatollah Davis makes crystal clear here and in a number of his writings that the War was to protect the system of economic and social privilege which they had built on the backs of the terrorization, torture, subjugation, rape and murder of an entire class of people on whom sating the appetites of his class depended.

From his inaugural address as the Grand Ayatollah and Political Leader of this Turncoat Confederacy, Davis speaks here to his followers and seeks to justify his terrorist-backed insurgency and his efforts to overthrow the duly-elected government of the United States.
"Looking forward to the speedy establishment of a permanent government to take the place of this, and which by its greater moral and physical power will be better able to combat with the many difficulties which arise from the conflicting interests of separate nations, I enter upon the duties of the office to which I have been chosen with the hope that the beginning of our career as a Confederacy may not be obstructed by hostile opposition to our enjoyment of the separate existence and independence which we have asserted, and, with the blessing of Providence, intend to maintain."
See, he's just misunderstood. Tryin' to be a nice guy and handle the breakup with a minimum of busted furniture and splintered ribs…
"Our present condition, achieved in a manner unprecedented in the history of nations, illustrates the American idea that governments rest upon the consent of the governed, and that it is the right of the people to alter or abolish governments whenever they become destructive of the ends for which they were established.

The declared purpose of the compact of Union from which we have withdrawn was "to establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity;" and when, in the judgment of the sovereign States now composing this Confederacy, it had been perverted from the purposes for which it was ordained…

Thus the sovereign States here represented proceeded to form this Confederacy, and it is by abuse of language that their act has been denominated a revolution. They formed a new alliance, but within each State its government has remained, the rights of person and property have not been disturbed. The agent through whom they communicated with foreign nations is changed, but this does not necessarily interrupt their international relations." (2)
And finally, even as the city of Baghdad fell, statues of former regime badasses were toppled, and a “Mission Accomplished” banner raised aboard the U.S.S. Agawam, Ayatollah Davis nonetheless insisted that:
“…
It is equally unwise and unworthy of us, as patriots engaged in a most sacred cause, to allow our energies to falter, our spirits to grow faint, or our efforts to become relaxed under reverses, however calamitous.

For many months the largest and finest army of the Insurgency, under the command of a leader whose presence inspires equal confidence in the troops and the people, has been greatly trammeled by the necessity of keeping constant watch over the approaches to the capital, and has thus been forced to forego more than one opportunity for promising enterprise.

The hopes and confidence of the enemy have been constantly excited by the belief that their possession of Baghdad would be the signal for our submission to their rule, and relieve them from the burden of war, as their failing resources admonish them it must be abandoned if not speedily brought to a successful close.

It is for us, my fellow Iraqi’s, to show by our bearing under reverses how wretched has been the self-deception of those who have believed us less able to endure misfortune with fortitude than to encounter danger with courage. We have now entered upon a new phase of a struggle the memory of which is to endure for all ages and to shed an increasing luster upon our country.

Relieved from the necessity of guarding cities and particular points, important but not vital to our defense, with an army free to move from point to point and strike in detail the detachments and garrisons of the enemy, operating on the interior of our own country, where supplies are more accessible, and where the foe will be far removed from his own base and cut off from all succor in case of reverse, nothing is now needed to render our triumph certain but the exhibition of our own unquenchable resolve. Let us but will it, and we are free; and who, in the light of the past, dare doubt your purpose in the future?

Animated by the confidence in your spirit and fortitude, which never yet has failed me, I announce to you, fellow-countrymen, that it is my purpose to maintain your cause with my whole heart and soul; that I will never consent to abandon to infidel one foot of the soil of our great nation; that Anbar Province, whose ancient renown has been eclipsed by her still more glorious recent history, whose bosom has been bared to receive the main shock of this war, whose sons and daughters have exhibited heroism so sublime as to render her illustrious in all times to come - that Falluja, with the help of her people, and by the blessing of Providence, shall be held and defended, and no peace ever be made with the infamous invaders of her homes by the sacrifice of any of her rights or territory.

If by stress of numbers we should ever be compelled to a temporary withdrawal from her limits, or those of any other border Province, again and again will we return, until the baffled and exhausted enemy shall abandon in despair his endless and impossible task of making slaves of a people resolved to be free.

Let us not, then, despond, my countrymen; but, relying on the never-failing mercies and protecting care of our God, let us meet the foe with fresh defiance, with unconquered and unconquerable hearts." (3)
OK, so what we have is a government beaten in war…

Their fall is followed by an unending campaign of escalating terrorism and murder…

Mixed with racist politics and bad theology, in support of a morally indefensible social system predicated on the assumption that one class has the inalienable, God-given right to physically, politically and economically subjugate another.

A war followed by a terrorist/insurgent movement, supported by the local government that goes on and on and on despite the core beliefs of the insurgents being in-fucking-sane. At which point, like the slice of rotting, diseased meat that it is, it finds a way to Trichnella itself into the belly of a mainstream political party, hollow it out, and start to enact by electoral means the Caliphate Theocracy of its dearest fevered fantasies.

Shit, NeoConfederates; didn’t you ever bother to notice that this is your fucking history? From, oh, say, 1860 until about two minutes ago? A history that you not only know, but proudly sop up with a biscuit. That you steep your souls in like feculent teabags. A wholly fictional origin myth –- your very own Nathan Bedford Forrest Teutonic Master Race Fable that you pass on to your children like a congenital birth defect.

And your insurgency lasted a century, fueled by a hatred of people to whom you were related by blood and history. Who lived one state away, spoke your same language and believed in more-or-less the same God.

So how in the fuck did you ever think the Yankee Infidel Army was going to be greeted as liberators by a completely alien culture halfway around the world, especially after our opening act was to let the place be looted down to the studs and halfpence? When the American Procurator only got interested in hearts and minds much, much later, when it started to look like cheap oil and permanent bases might not be on the brunch menu after all.

How do you – of all people – pretend not to understand how unbelievably obstinate and intractable an insurgency can be, even though it’s core ideology may very well be despicable and perverse?

I would think the answer would be obvious: in Georgia... Georgia... Tiblisi on my mind... in the stillness of Abu Maddox prison.

A very pointed and concise summation. It would make a marvelous pamphlet "Why You Fight" to be dropped on all the red states.

Unfortunately, that's true for too many people.

...umm, maybe because it's sort of part of the plan? I mean, the war did destabilize the 2002 election and the republicans reversed the longt standing trend of off year losses, it DOES allow them to enrich their cronies both in iraq with skimming and scams and here at home, it allows them the excuse to cut domestic spending that enables their political enemies, allows them unprecidented consolidation of power, i mean it goes on and on, pretty much a net positive for the GOP (where DID that 9 billion disappear to?) and if they can control the propaganda and the voting, who's to say it will ever sour for them? (corruption trials and impeachment aside i'm really only talking about the drive to flake off a chunk of the treasury and drop the shavings in thier pockets)....
